CAKE CUTTING symbolizes the couple’s first task as husband and wife.

The groom will first feed his


bride with cake followed by the the bride. It symbolizes the newly wed’s commitment for each other. If
you want to be spiritual about it, the cake symbolizes “bread” Christ’s body.

BEST MAN’S SPEECH AND TOAST – Stands at the right side of the groom while the groom
is standing at the right side of the bride. In other countries, the best man does two wedding toast.
The first one during the wedding rehearsal dinner – an intimate gathering where the Best Man
would tell a story about the bride and groom. The second one is during the reception itself. Not
everyone does a wedding reception dinner, so this often done only during the Reception proper.
The history dates back in Ancient Greece where a host drank wine before his guests could to
show that it was free from unnecessary concoction. The toast signifies that he wishes the couple
good health.

COUPLE’S TOAST – The spiritual significance of the couple’s wine toasting is the blood of
Christ where the couple becomes one with God. It is also the symbol of the couple’s union.

DOVE FLYING – The dove is a Christian symbol of the Holy Spirit in a God-loving
relationship. Doves symbolizes the bride’s purity.

COUPLE’S FIRST DANCE – This signifies the celebratory aspect of the couple’s union, it
serves as a joyfully introduction between husbands and wife.

MONEY DANCE (PROSPERITY DANCE) – The couple will be dancing another song and
the guests will be pinning money unto the clothes of the couple. Some just would pin it, another
version is males would pin the money on the Bride’s dress and dances with her and that happens
also to the groom, this time women guests are the one who will line-up to do this. This tradition
symbolizes the guests wishing the couple good fortune, hoping that money and fortune will
“rain” on the said couple.
There is also another way of financially helping the couple at the beginning of their life together.
In places like Samar, they would have the famous Curacha dance which natives know the basic
steps of this dance. Placing a cloth near the dancing couple guests would dance around either
individually or in pairs and literally throws bundles of money to the couples and let it fall on the
cloth on the floor.

GARTER TRADITION/TOSS – This is a medieval tradition that guest would often try to get
a piece of the bride’s clothing, but in order to avoid this the garter is now the one being tossed.
Usually, the bride wears the said garter above the knee and the groom needs to get it from the
bride.
BOUQUET TOSS/GAME – Whoever gets the bouquet she will be the next one to get married,
but this tradition symbolizes the ever growing beauty and happiness of the couple that has to be
nurtured continuously.
