The Sponsors

- Respectively referred to as ninangs (females) and ninongs (males), sponsors are women and
men whom the bride and groom respect and admire. They serve as witnesses to the marriage,
attesting to the couple’s readiness for marriage and freedom to marry. Principal sponsors are
often aunts and uncles or close friends of the family.
- Their participation is symbolic of the wisdom, guidance, love and support they shall offer the
couple throughout their lives.

Secondary Sponsors

- The first set of sponsors are responsible for pinning the Bride’s Veil to the shoulder of the
Groom.
- This is to symbolize the wedding couple’s clothes as one.

was a symbol of His presence
b. The Cord

Groom together during the actual Wedding Ceremony.
- This is to symbolize the spiritual bonding of the two souls.
- Symbol of the couple's bond; that indeed they are no longer two but one in their new life as a
couple.
c. The Candle
- Then the last pair of sponsor will light two candles on either side of a unity candle, which the
couple getting married light together.
- Symbolize the Light of Christ, the same light they received at Baptism and now receive again to
lead them in their new life as a couple.
d. The Coins (Arrhae)
- The groom presents his bride the “Arrhae” also known as the 13 golden coins. The “Arrhae have
been blessed by the priest for a life of faithfulness and prosperity.

groom's promise to provide for the welfare of the new family.
