Species: a group of similar organisms that can breed and produce fertile organisms.

example: A species of organism is dogs.

reproductive isolation: separation of species or populations so they can not interbreed and produce fertile
Offspring.
example: the eastern meadowlark and the western meadowlark do not interbreed because they have differen

Speciation: Formation of a new species

example: An ape produces the first two fertile humans
can describe the “test” to determine if two populations belong to

the same species.

If two populations can interbreed and produce offspring they are belonging to the same species.

I can describe the series of events that occur and leads to one species

becoming two during the

mechanisms
of

reproductive isolation:
geographic isolation, temporal
isolation,

behavioral isolation, sexual selection.

In behavioral isolation, a species are capable of interbreeding but difference in interbreeding
rituals stop them from doing so.
Geographical isolation is when a physical factor such as a lake or river prevent the two
population from interacting causing them to evolve separately.

Temporal isolation
When species reproduce at different times.
