The width of each course of materials shall be measured at
the top of surface of that course. The areas of manholes
covers and other intrusions into a course shall not be
deducted where the area of the intrusion is less than 1 m².

D1
Subgrade preparation, subbase, road base, road shoulder
and pavement courses shall be classified as reference to
JKR Arahan Teknik (Jalan) or by other relevant authorities.

C1
Items for the work in this class involving in situ/precast
concrete shall be deemed to include concrete,
reinforcement, joints, formwork to form and shape and
finishes to concrete.

ROADWORKS SPECIFICATION
1. GENERAL
1.All roads shall be constructed to the required lines, levels, grades and
profiles as shown on the drawings or as directed by the Engineer. Road
pavements shall be laid to the required length and width at the appropriate
locations as shown on the drawings.

2.Unless otherwise specified, no paving of road shall be carried out until


the construction of roadside drains and public utilities or other services that
might affect the road pavements had been completed.

3.Road shoulders between pavement and roadside drains shall be turfed


to prevent erosion. The Contractor shall obtain approval from the
Engineer on the type of turf grass he intends to use.

General
This work shall consist of the supply and installation of cast in situ or pre-
cast concrete kerbs constructed at the locations and in accordance with the
lines, levels, grades, dimensions and types as shown on the drawings, all in
accordance to the specification

Materials
Concrete for kerb sections shall be grade 25/20 concrete unless otherwise
indicated on the drawings. Unless otherwise indicated on the drawings,
bedding shall be grade 10/25 concrete

Installation of Kerbs
a) Excavation
1. Excavation shall be made to the required depth and the base shall be
trimmed and compacted to a firm and even surface.
2. All soft and unsuitable material shall be removed and replaced with
suitable material.
3. The bedding material shall then be placed and compacted to form a
bed of required thickness as shown on the detailed drawings

b) Backfilling
1. The spaces in the front and back of each kerb shall be refilled to the
required elevation with suitable material approved by the S.O which
shall be tamped in layers of not more than 150mm until properly
compacted
2. The finish work shall true to line, grade and level to within ±10mm and
shall present a smooth appearance free from links and distortion visible
to the eyes

Precast concrete kerb
• Precast concrete kerb shall be cast using steel mould and shall be of
as shown on the detail drawings
• Each kerb shall be so that its front top arise conforms to the line and
grade required. All spaces under the kerb shall be filled with bedding
which shall be thoroughly tamped.
• Kerbs shall be laid with joint a narrow as possible and filled with
mortar containing one part portland cement to 2 parts sand. Here a
portland cement con rete pavement is to be constructed contiguous
to a kerb, expansion joints shall e constructed in the keb directly in
line with pavement expansion joints. The expansion joint in the kerb
shall be 20mm in width and shall be filled wit an expanion joint filler
of the same nominal thickness as the pavement joint. Any voids
between filler and the concrete kerb shall be filled with mortar.
