Face and rim dial indicator.

1- Position or mount the dial indicators at 12 o’clock for both face and rim of the hub as shown in
figure 2.2. Ideally mount the dial indicator where the plunger can be moved up 5 mm (positive)
and can move down 5mm (negative), meaning the plunger can play 5mm up or 5 mm down
2- Measure A, B and C as shown in the figure 2.2

A mm B mm C mm

3- Measuring vertical misalignment, perform the following steps

a. Set the big hand of dial indicators for both rim dial big hand and face dial big hand to zero,
and record the small millimeter hand dial settings
b. Rotate the shaft from 12 o’clock to 6 o’clock

c. Find the TIRF and TIRR values using the reading.
d. Calculate offset and angularity from the 12:00 TIR’s, use the following rules:
 Coupling Offset = TIRR /2
Note: if TIRR is positive (+), the it indicates that motor shaft is below the pump; negative
(-) indicates that motor shaft is above the pump.
 Shaft Angularity = TIRF / A
Note: If TIRF is positive (+), then it indicates that motor is shaft pointing downward; if
TIRF is negative, then it (-) indicates that motor is shaft pointing upward.

4- Calculation

F1 =Front foot position calculation

F 1=( TIRA )∗B+ 12∗TIR

F
R

F2 = Rear Foot position calculation:

F 2=( TIRA ) x ( B+C ) + 12∗TIR

F
R

Note:
 Positive values mean the foot is high, shims must be removed.
 Negative values mean the foot is low, shims must be added
5- Plot the graph. Example: offset = 2 mm; TIRF = -1 mm.
