ABSTRACT
Technology provides a lot to our society such as convenience . But as much it is very

convenient , relying in technology to do tasks that we should be able to do ourselves can result

to regression of human beings. An example of technology that Is convenient but detrimental to

us when over-dependent are the artificial intelligence generators. According to Ortiz (2019)

Artificial Intelligence Generators are AI algorithms generating or creating an output , such as

text, photo, video, code, data, and 3D renderings with just a few steps. There are many different

popular bots responsible for creating different outputs such as ChatGPT , DALL- E and Jasper .

It has come to a point that students always use AI to create schoolwork and not change anything

which is why Using AI is seen as Academic Dishonesty by Teachers. For instance It even

reaches to the point that students still rely on AI even when it is instructed not to do so , for

instance some students in the University of the Philippines Diliman were investigated for using

AI to fulfill academic requirements

The researchers aims to determine what the impact of the over-reliance of Students in AI in

their education.For this study, the researchers select the qualitative approach as it the most

suitable for analyzing the respondent’s usage of AI generators as well as their thoughts about it.

The researchers will be able to come up with results by then. As stated by Bhandari (2019)

Qualitative approach involves collecting and analyzing non-numerical data to understand

concepts , opinions , experiences. Specifically , a case study as it analyzes persons, groups,

events, decisions, periods, policies, institutions or other systems that are studied holistically by

one or more methods. It investigates a phenomenon within its real-life context.

PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Technology provides a lot to our society such as convenience , comfort , information , and

most importantly the development of society itself. But as much it is very convenient , relying in

technology to do tasks that we should be able to do ourselves can result to regression of human

beings Morgan (2017) states that if we put too much reliance on technology alone it will make us

less human and deeply affect our sense of focus , judgement and creativity because we’ll refrain

from thinking on our own instead we look at the data and algorithm collected by the AI and

basing our decisions on what it tells us. An example of technology that Is convenient but

detrimental to us when over-dependent are the artificial intelligence generators.

According to Ortiz (2019) Artificial Intelligence Generators are AI algorithms generating or

creating an output , such as text, photo, video, code, data, and 3D renderings with just a few steps

, from data they are trained on. There are many different popular bots responsible for creating

different outputs such as ChatGPT , DALL- E and Jasper . The ability of these bots to produce

content in seconds drew people’s attention , ChatGPT accumulated more than a million users

within a week of its launch. Although the news of AI generated content stealing from other

people’s original work and the increase of reliance to these bots spiked controversy as people

worry AI taking over ending human creativity .

But there are some crucial flaws are made by these AI generators which gives it away. The

output generated by the AI can be made up by the AI itself and inaccurate. Success Team (2022)

states that the bot generates output text by using a combination of machine learning algorithms

and natural language processing techniques , the algorithms collects a large amount collection of

written texts such as books , articles and other written texts , the AI generator heavily relies on

the information it took and paraphrasing it for creating outputs which means it can easily take in

wrong information. This Is a concerning matter especially in the field of Education since

students need accurate information for research although It can’t be denied that the AI can still

learn from it’s flaws and besides a large amount of students in the Philippines rely on it despite

it’s flaws. It has come to a point that students always use AI to create schoolwork and not change

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The fast advancement and widespread usage of Artificial Intelligence (AI) generators has

raised controversy about their impact on high school pupils' academic achievement. The purpose

of this research is to investigate the impact of Al generators on the academic performance of

Saint Simon of Cyrene Academy students. The challenge is determining if the use of Al

generators has a favorable or detrimental impact on students' learning outcomes and overall

educational experience. The research will investigate the potential benefits and drawbacks of Al

generators, taking into account issues like accessibility, ease of use, reliability, and potential

consequences for critical thinking and creativity. This study aims to provide valuable insights

into the appropriate integration of Al technologies within the educational context, ultimately

informing educators, policymakers, and stakeholders about the potential benefits and challenges

of incorporating Al generators into high school curricular. Also , this study seeks to address the

following questions :

Artificial Intelligence was invented way back in the 90’s , AI became more advanced through

the years through continuous development. AI had a huge impact to the world , it is helpful in

assisting us in our everyday lives. In the field of education AI , the most significant aid it does is

helping professors create faster assessments of student’s outputs and return feedback to students

and provide students with automatic assistance that can help them be more time efficient. At the

same time , AI exacerbate productivity in students since it provides convincing automatic outputs

they could just copy the AI’s work and mark it as theirs and adding to the fact that it Is quite

difficult to tell if a text is AI written. If we rely on AI too much it is possible it can get smarter

than us and eliminate our logical thinking and creativity which is why Geoffrey Hinton the

“Godfather of AI” resigned Google over the fear that the technology he pioneered leading to the

creation of CHATGPT may become smarter than us , it also stated that he warned us of the

dangers of AI.

The reason why students uses AI generators so much is that it creates an output that is sufficient

enough to impress teachers. According to Bello and Duboust (2023) that the new powerful AI

tools such as CHATGPT can end homework , the quality of the copy it produces can impress

teachers in secondary and higher education even researchers. Schools even had to ban

CHATGPT because they perceive it as a cheating aid although it is questionable whether these

bans are effective as students will find a way to use it.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This research aims to discover the impact of artificial intelligence generators to the

academic performance of high school students of Saint Simon of Cyrene Academy Inc. And find

what can be done to determine what the impact of over-reliance of students in AI in their

education. The study’s findings will assist the following individuals and organizations:

Parents: This research helps the parents to monitor their children’s usage of AI Generators

in their academic work and help teach their children to use their thinking too instead of relying

on AI.

Students: This research will students expand their knowledge about the negative impact of

using AI in their studies and hopefully help them to realize that they need to put in their own

effort too.

Teachers: This research also helps teachers determine if students are only using AI in their

outputs instead of putting an effort of revising it and putting their own thoughts.

Researchers: This research intends to give the researchers a better understanding about AI

generators

Future researchers: This research will help them to get more knowledge on how AI

generators works and its impact in academic performance on high school students

SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS

The title of this research is “ The Impact of Artificial Intelligence Generators to the

Academic Performance of High School Students of Saint Simon of Cyrene Academy". This

study is focused on determining how AI affects student academic performance and how

researchers will address the problem. Furthermore , the researchers will discuss why Artificial

Intelligence Generators is a hindrance in learning and not a good thing for students. And finally ,

we also sought to know how to teach students to use AI effectively without backlash because

they are the most affected in this study.

such as text, photo, video, code, data, and 3D renderings with just a few steps , from data they

are trained on.

Academic Performance: refers to the extent to which a student achieves desired learning

outcomes, demonstrates knowledge and skills , and meets established academic standards

Highschool: Secondary education being offered by a school to pupils , often between ages

14 to 18.

Over-reliance: Excessive reliance ; The act or state of relying on something or someone too

much.

AI has a long history, dating back to ancient Greece. John McCarthy first used the term

"Artificial Intelligence" and defined it as "the science and engineering of making intelligent

machines". AI's main strategy has focused on symbolic reasoning, which is thought to be

necessary for intelligent behavior. In recent years, the information systems (IS) research

community has given AI more attention. There are a few explanations given for the recent

increase in interest in AI (von Krogh, 2018). Some of the fundamental AI techniques, like

current and conventional neural networks, have made significant strides in recent decades. Many

of these techniques have been published open-source, making them accessible to everyone.

Because AI involves complex and intensive computing. .AI has been claimed to offer

transformational potential across sectors and industries, ranging from supply chain management

to medicine to automobiles . According to studies, AI offers chances to increase performance

(Wilson & Daugherty, 2018), change the future of work (Schwartz et al., 2019), reinvent

business models (Duan, Edwards, & Dwivedi, 2019), and even boost human capacities

(Dwivedi, et al., 2021).

However , While the potential of AI is great, significant challenges also need to be

addressed which is too great to ignore especially in Education. These include ensuring that AI

technologies are designed and used to protect student privacy, promoting digital literacy and

responsible use of AI, and ensuring that AI does not exacerbate student’s academic abilities.

Popenici and Kerr (2017) investigated the impact of AI systems on learning and teaching, and

uncovered potential conflicts between students and instructors, such as privacy concerns,

changes in power structures, and excessive control. All of these studies called for more research

into the impact of AI systems on learner–instructor interaction, which will help us identify any

gaps, issues, or barriers preventing AI systems from achieving their intended potential

One of the significant drawbacks of AI to students are lack of creativity and innovation AI-

based systems can lead to a lack of creativity among students as they rely on it too much ,

hindering their ability to come up with innovative and original ideas and hindering their future

success. As well as hindering critical thinking due to over-reliance on AI. Furthermore AI in

education can reinforce existing biases by relying on biased data, leading to unfair grading and

perpetuating existing inequalities. Along with the possibility of replacing human interaction

which can lead to weak social and emotional skills.

Research and Methodologies

This chapter covers the research methodology. This will include the research methods used,

procedures in gathering the respondents, then analyzing the data, and the conclusion of the

fundamental research.

RESEARCH DESIGN

The study will take place in designated classrooms and computer labs at Saint Simon of

Cyrene Academy. The researchers will be able to closely examine and measure the impact of AI

generators on students' academic achievement using these conditions. Access to the school's

administration, teachers, and students will make data collecting easier and create a collaborative

research process. The research will assist both the local educational community and the broader

area of education by being conducted at Saint Simon of Cyrene Academy.

The Saint Simon Of Cyrene Academy, with its modern facilities and devotion to excellence,

academic achievement. The school's well-equipped computer labs and diversified student

population provide an ideal setting for conducting the study intervention and collecting valuable

RESEARCH RESPONDENTS

We chose Saint Simon of Cyrene Academy, Inc. high school students as our research

participants to look into how AI affects students' academic performance. We interviewed 6

students from the high school level and asked them questions relating to their usage of AI and

how it might their academic performance , their responses will serve as reference material for

research. Simple random sampling a type of probability sampling is chosen in selecting the

respondents in which the researcher randomly selects a subset of participants from a population.

Each member of the population has an equal chance of being selected

RESEARCH INSTRUMENT

The researchers will plan an interview as their specific source of information and data that

will be required for their study. The interview schedule will be divided into two distinct

segments. The first segment is a statistical profile of Saint Simon of Cyrene Academy high

school students, and the second is their perspectives on the impact of artificial intelligence

generators on their academic performance. The information that will be accumulated is exposed

to examination and interpretation. The analysis of the interview will be utilized to approve the

reactions of the researchers’ respondents, which are the high school students of Saint Simon of

Cyrene Academy. The figured queries will be presented to a specialist who is a professional in

the area of high school education in order to guarantee the validity of the questions in the

interview. The suggestions given after the expert approved the prepared questions are

implemented in the tool created by the researchers. This process ensures that the questions are

valid and reliable and that they accurately measure the intended constructs. Additionally, pilot

testing may be conducted to further refine the questions and ensure their effectiveness before

administering the interview to participants.

DATA GATHERING PROCEDURES

In order to obtain permission to conduct the study, the researchers will write a letter and

send it to Saint Simon of Cyrene Academy after the research tool has been approved. Once the

letter has been approved, data from the study titled "The Impact of Artificial Intelligence

Generators on the Academic Performance of High School Students of Saint Simon of Cyrene

Academy" will be acquired by direct observation or conversation with a plan. In particular, the

high school students at Saint Simon of Cyrene Academy, this strategy involves immediate

engagement with the interviews. The researchers will request information from students at Saint

Simon of Cyrene Academy in order to collect the necessary data. Given that the students at Saint

Simon of Cyrene Academy will get clarification, this technique will provide consistent and

progressively more precise information and data. The interview will be used by the researchers

since it will include a few crucial inquiries that will aid in characterizing the study's several

investigational areas. This will enable the Saint Simon of Cyrene Academy high school students

to fully connect in order to look for a thinking and respond to the inquiry in the same way.

DATA ANALYSIS

As we gathered data we conducted a survey to students of Saint Simon of Cyrene Academy

about the impact of Artificial Intelligence Generators on their Performance as High school

students. As we proceed we ask some simple questions for students regarding about using some

Ai (Artificial Intelligence ) for their studies if they solely rely on it to create their outputs if so

do you think it is helpful or not? As we gathered the information we needed , we noticed some

students are using Ai (Artificial Intelligence ) to do their homework they say they use it because

it has a lot useful of information. On the other hand, we interview some students that say they

only use it if it's necessary or if they are too lazy to do some research on their homework. As we

can see in this survey there so many students that are using Artificial Intelligence Generators or

Ai tools in their studies as a high school student.

ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS

The standards of research morals will be guaranteed in leading this research through

entirely observing the following:

(i) The researchers kindly respect the respondents privacy , so any reference linking to the

respondents personal information will be strictly confidential and kept for research purposes.

(ii) The researchers would not sincerely or physically harm the respondents to accumulate

the information that are requested in this study.

(iii) The researchers will not forget to citate references of the materials that will be used in

the study to avoid plagiarism and copyright strike.

(iv) A letter of intent will be made and presented to the school authorities of Saint Simon of

Cyrene Academic, Inc. For permission to carry an interview with the respondents.

CONCLUSION
Throughout the research with the title “The Impact of Artificial Intelligence Generators to the

Academic Performance of High School Students of Saint Simon of Cyrene Academy”, the

research has concluded. Artificial Intelligence Generators are AI algorithms generating or

creating an output , such as text, photo, video, code, data, and 3D renderings with just a few steps

, from data they are trained on notable example of these are ChatGPT , DALL- E and Jasper .

Interviews showed that students use AI generators If necessary and too lazy to do their

homework These AI exacerbate productivity , creativity and innovation in students since it

provides convincing automatic outputs.
