Narrative Report on the Conduct of the


YES-O/SCIENCE CLUB CLEAN-UP DRIVE

I. INTRODUCTION/RATIONALE
Waste management is essential in today’s society. Due to an increase in population, the
generation of waste is getting doubled day by day. Moreover, the increase in waste is affecting the
lives of many people. Waste management is the management of waste by disposal and recycling
it. Moreover, waste management needs proper techniques keeping in mind the environmental
situations. For instance, there are various methods and techniques by which the waste is
disposed of. Some of them are Landfills, Recycling, Composting, etc. Furthermore, these methods
are much useful in disposing of waste without causing any harm to the environment.
The Republic Act (RA) 9003, otherwise known as the Ecological Solid Waste Management
Act of 2000, provides the necessary policy framework, institutional mechanisms, and mandate to
the local government units (LGUs) to achieve 25% waste reduction through establishing an
integrated solid waste management plans based on 3Rs (reduce, reuse and recycling).
This Act makes provision for the efficient solid waste management, for the volume
reduction of the waste, its environment-friendly disposal, composting, recycling, re-use, recovery,
green charcoal process; for the collection, treatment and disposal in environmentally sound solid
waste management facilities whereas it shall be possible to correctly dispose the proper
segregation, collection, transport, storage, treatment and disposal of solid waste. It also concerns
the protection of groundwater from pollution. Under this Act national research and development
programs for improved solid waste management and resource conservation techniques shall be
promoted and supported.

II. ACTIVITIES UNDERTAKEN

The Office of MENRO-Sugpon, Ilocos Sur in collaboration with Deped Youth Formation-
Sugpon NHS through the YES-O, SSG, BKD, and Science Club joined in the conduct of Coastal
Clean Up Drive along Amburayan and Gayaman River.

III. PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED

The time is not enough to gather the trash along the river banks and the picnic areas.
The students are in hurry to go home to catch up with the Christmas program .

IV. RECOMMENDATION

To finish the activity thoroughly, it is strongly suggested that the next CLEAN-UP DRIVE
should be done in half a day to carry out all its objectives.
