I. Introduction
Purok 5, Maigo Labuay, Lanao del Norte, has long been plagued by regular flooding
caused by litter and trash clogging its canal roads. The Purok 5, Maigo Labuay officials
conducted a clean-up drive to address this problem. A clean-up drive is a community-based
environmental initiative that inspires and empowers communities to clean up, fix up, and
conserve their environment. Recognizing this issue, the STEM 11 students are eager to lend
their support to the clean-up drive aimed at addressing this pressing concern. However, the
Grade 11 STEM students’ endeavor requires the approval of the SK Officer of Labuay, an
essential step to initiate the mission. This concept paper outlines the vision to contribute to
the clean-up drive activity in Purok 5, Maigo Labuay, focusing on clearing the roads and
mitigating the recurrent flooding during heavy rainfall. Through this initiative, the Grade 11
STEM students aim to make a meaningful impact as responsible and proactive students.
II. Purpose
This is an effort by STEM students to address the recurring flooding issue in Purok 5,
Labuay, which is caused by litter and trash obstructing the canal roads. The main objective is
to assist the clean-up drive activity, aiming to help the residents of Purok 5 by preventing
floods through canal cleaning and roadside trash collection. The gathered trash will then be
sorted at the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) to reuse recyclable materials. Furthermore,
supporting this clean-up initiative can raise awareness of cleanliness and inspire others to
take action. Thus, the purpose is to highlight the importance of community involvement and
encourage collaboration to create a cleaner and safer environment for everyone.
III. Description
The clean-up drive directly addresses the issue of waste accumulation and
environmental degradation within the barangay. It is a community initiative aimed at
enhancing the cleanliness and environmental health of the barangay, with the goal of
achieving a plastic-free community. This clean-up drive holds significant importance for the
barangay as it contributes to the overall well-being of the community by creating a cleaner
and safer living space. Anticipated outcomes of the clean-up drive include a visibly cleaner
and more organized barangay, highlighting the importance of community involvement and
encouraging collaboration to create a cleaner and safer environment for everyone. The STEM
students hope to seek support from the Barangay Captain and the SK Officials. Additionally,
the team would like to request cleaning materials such as hand sanitizers and sacks for
collecting the trash from the SK officials.

IV. Support
Approval from the barangay captain and SK Officers is essential to engage in the
cleanup drive within our community.
