SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH 8


Quarter 3

I. OBJECTIVES:

At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:


a. distinguish facts and opinions;
b. use opinion marking signals to express or share ideas; and
c. appreciate opinion marking signals in a daily basis.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Opinion-Marking Signals


Reference: English 8 Alternative Delivery Mode
Quarter 2 – Module 2: Opinion-Marking Signals
Materials: Worksheets, chalk, audio-visual, laptop, projector and visual aids.

III. PROCEDURE

A. PRELIMINARY ACTIVITIES

a. Prayer and Greetings


b. Checking of Attendance
c. Setting of Classroom Standards

B. REVIEW

The teacher will ask the students on the previous discussion about fact.

Questions:
1. What is fact?
2. Why is fact important and relevant to today’s generation?

C. MOTIVATION

The teacher will play an audio-visual presentation about “Can You Express Opinion on
Social Networks” and will throw a paper ball to a student and a student that gets the ball will
take one question and will answer it.

Processing Questions:

1. What are the highlighted words?


2. What do you think are the statements of the two women about posting on internet?
3. Do you think it is our duty to maintain a good usage of the internet?
4. If internet is scary, why do people use it?
D. LESSON PROPER

a. Activity

The class will be divided into four groups and will have an interesting activity called
“Fact or Bluff”. Each group will be given a thumbs up and thumbs down logo to raise
whenever they know the answer of the statements. The students will be given a minute for
each question and they have to explain their answer whether it is fact or bluff.

b. Presentation of the Lesson

The teacher discusses and gives the definition of the topic.

The teacher will further discuss the topic by providing examples.


c. Application
The teacher will disseminate a worksheet to each group. Each group will have different
topics to give their opinions to.

The teacher will give the students 3 minutes to prepare, 7 minutes to answer and 5 minutes to
present.

Directions: Write at least three (3) reasons to support the given opinion. Then you are
going to read your answers in front of the class. This activity will be rated through a rubric.
The teacher will post the rubric on the board.

IV. GENERALIZATION
The teacher will ask these following questions to the students.

1. What is opinion marking signal?


2. What are some examples of Opinion Marking Signals?
3. In writing or giving ideas, what is important in to use opinion marking signals?
4. Explain the difference of opinion and fact.

V. EVALUATION
On a ½ sheet of paper, read and underline the opinion- marking signals used below.

1. I like broccoli.
2. I think skunks are cute.
3. I feel scared in the dark.
4. He is my favorite Thai actor.
5. The Treaty of Ghent tried to settle boundary disputes between the United States and
Canada, and was the worst treaty ever.
6. I believe that people should take care of the environment.
7. Softball is the best sport to play with friends.
8. I am convinced that children should stay with their parents.
9. Boracay is a wonderful place to spend summer.
10. My favorite team in basketball is Alaska.

VI. ASSIGNMENT
On a whole sheet of paper, create an article about the implementation of wearing a school
uniform and use opinion marking signals, maximum of three paragraphs.
