A Narrative Report on the Observance and Conduct of Pambansang Buwan at Araw ng Pagbasa 2022

Reading feeds the thought and replenishes the soul. It makes a creative mind and teaches countless
values.

With reference to RM No. 0963,s.2022, all schools in the region conducted school/classroom-based
reading activities to boost children’s love towards reading. Series of suggested activities were identified and
were based upon on by the school reading coordinators.

Two years of non-face to face classes had significantly affected the learners’ reading proficiency.
Teachers have no assurance that reading is well-facilitated at home. Thus, these month-long activities were
well-planned of.

Through the innate desire of its teachers, Asuncion Elementary School has followed some of the
activities which mostly suited to the locale and the learners’ interest and added some which are agreed on
during the faculty meeting. Among the agreed activities were Nursery Rhymes presentation, telling the
initial letter sounds of each picture, Poem Recitation, Story-telling, Choral Reading, Verse Choir, Jazz Chant
and everyone’s favorite, the Modified Spelling Bee Contest.

The region-wide kick off was conducted last November 7, 2022 after the flag ceremony, as instructed.
The teacher-volunteer read a story to the learners and questions were thrown to them with corresponding
prizes. Some learners were also called to retell the story that they’ve heard. The Reading coordinator, Ms.
Analie A. Estuya tapped some alumni to help with the book donations, and before classes starts, learners
were encouraged to visit their mini libraries and accomplish a daily reading log. Accomplishing a daily
reading log about the books they’ve read must be made as their routine so the will to read stays with them
even after the reading month.

After classes, the teachers and learners took time to rehearse on their literary pieces to be presented on
the last Monday of the month. Their daily spelling activities served as their training for the Modified
Spelling Bee contest. The learners had evidently enjoyed while gradually working out a habit for reading.
The School Head, sir Dexter E. Solis emphasized the importance of reading for all learners’ future
endeavors. When learners developed a habit of reading, they become better individuals and they get to share
all the learnings they’ve acquired to others.

Finally, the day came when all learners shall showcase all that they’ve got. Their hard works were paid
off with appreciations and recognitions. In attendance were few parents, the BLGU Committee on Education
Chairman and the barangay captain who’s been so supportive in every activity conducted in school. The
Kindergarten learners, with their colorful props and graceful moves presented their nursery rhymes. Grade 1
learners on the other hand, presented 2 poems in Mother Tongue, Grade 2 presented a poem recitation in
Filipino, Grade 3 presented a story-telling, Grade 4 learners were fluent on their Choral Reading, Grade 5
learners were excellent on their Verse Choir and Grade 6 learners were vigorous on their Jazz Chant. In
between those presentations were Modified Spelling Bee for Grades 1-3 and for Grades 4-6.

It was indeed a fruitful month. Reading is fun, learning is fun at Asuncion Elementary School!
