National Reading Month 2019
NARRATIVE REPORT ON NATIONAL READING MONTH CELEBRATION
S.Y. 2019 - 2020

November every year is observed as National Reading Month (NRM) in our country. This year’s

celebration focuses on love for reading with the theme, “Magbasa’t Umunlad!”.The objectives of this

annual celebration are to develop learner’s love of reading, enhance learner’s reading level performance

and to develop their reading comprehension through different reading materials.

To intensify the importance of reading thus making it a hobby to read and read, starting

November 11,2019 Aguinaldo Elementary School prepared various reading activities and strategies

spearheaded by our principal Mr. Cesario S. Abon Jr. Several related routines were done by

Kindergarten pupils to Grade Six pupils without the disruption of classes.

Every teacher also conducted reading assessment to determine the reading readiness of a child.

They conducted the class reading pre-test for both Silent and Oral Reading for English and Filipino

subject. Based on the oral reading consolidated report for all reading test being conducted, 10% of the

grade one pupils failed to identify letter sounds and 20% of the grade II to VI pupils were not able to

read with comprehension.

Reading remediation were conducted by each teacher in all grade level for those learners

evaluated of having difficulties in reading. Big books, flashcards and charts were used. Follow-up

reading at home were also asked from the parents to ensure the positive development of the child in

reading.

Indeed, reading of books is a great help to enhance reading proficiency level of the learners.
