I. MULTIPLE CHOICE: Choose the letter of the correct answer. Write your answer before the number. Use
CAPITAL LETTERS only. (5 points)
_______1. Igneous rock is divided into two groups, extrusive and intrusive. Extrusive igneous rocks form when
magma makes its way to its surface as lava and then cools forming rocks. Which of the following will be
the characteristics of the crystals?
A. Crystals are coarse–grained. C. Crystals are very large.
B. Crystals are fine–grained. D. Crystals are phaneritic.
_______2. Which of the following represents the correct order of the processes responsible for the formation of
sedimentary rocks?
A. Erosion, weathering, compaction, cementation, deposition
B. Compaction, cementation, deposition, weathering, erosion
C. Deposition, cementation, compaction, erosion, weathering
D. Weathering, erosion, deposition, compaction, cementation
_______3. During the 1800s, miners can identify real gold from pyrite by biting the surface of the mineral. The said
mineral is considered real gold if a bite mark is exhibited. What property is tested in this scenario?
A. Cleavage B. Hardness C. Luster D. Streak color
_______4. Given the list of minerals below, what is the correct arrangement from hardest to softest according to
Moh’s Scale?

Write your answer before the number. (10 points)

__________ 6. Most power plants harnessing renewable energy resources use turbines and generators.
__________ 7. The Philippines has a low capability of producing electricity sourced from renewable resources.
__________ 8. Between hydropower and geothermal power plant, the first one produces more harmful effects on the
environment.
__________ 9. The country (Philippines) is largely dependent on non–renewable energy resources like fossil fuels.
__________ 10. When a hot spring is present in the area, then a geothermal power plant can be built using the heat
from it.
__________ 11. A large volume of water flowing from a source at a great height produces a large amount of electrical
energy.
__________ 12. Hydroelectric plants convert electrical energy to mechanical energy.
__________ 13. The hydrologic cycle is the key to making electricity production possible using hydropower plants.
__________ 14. Climate change affects hydropower generation.
__________ 15. Heat can be created and converted into other forms.

III. CONSTRUCTED RESPONSE: For numbers 16 to 25. Read and analyze the given situation then answer the
question that follows. (10 points)

The energy supply in the country is still

primarily sourced from fossil fuels. Non-renewable
oil and coal made up 61% of energy sources in 2018.
The industry and electricity sectors relied heavily on
coal, taking up 32% and 31.5% of 2018 energy
consumption, respectively.

16. – 20. Based on the given data, the country has no

nuclear source which is one of the cleanest sources of
renewable energy supply. There are assumptions that
the government will revive the Bataan Nuclear Power
Plant (BNPP). What is your stand on this issue?
