Account representative
Primary duties: Account representatives are entry-level professionals who build and manage
accounts by finding new customers and serving the needs of existing customers. They help
customers access goods or services they purchase and connect them to internal teams to
resolve any issues or concerns. Candidates for this role may hold a postsecondary education
and up to three years of sales experience.
2. Account executive
Primary duties: An account executive works with a team to increase a company's brand and
revenue. They develop relationships as a consultant and create business plans, develop
forecasts of business performance, and create ways to convert sales leads into business
results. An account executive often has a postsecondary degree or diploma and five years of
experience in sales.
3. Account director
Primary duties: An account director is the primary contact between the client and the company.
They often have a deep understanding of the industry sector to develop and grow client
relationships through their leadership, collaboration, and strategy development. Most account
directors have five years of experience in the industry or an account management position, and
postsecondary education focused on marketing, communications, or business.
Primary duties: A director of sales and marketing develops relationships with customers, finds
new customers and leads teams of sales and marketing professionals. They work to achieve
revenue goals by creating and implementing strategies in new and existing markets within their
sector. Directors often have three or more years of experience in sales leadership, strong
written and verbal communications skills, strong organizational skills, and a background in
analyzing financial and competitive data to make effective decisions.
Primary duties: This is a senior-level sales position with responsibilities such as setting up
introductory meetings with executives at potential customer companies, working closely with
internal executives, managing a database of clients, and conducting research on new business
opportunities. Many business development directors have at least two years of experience
working with executives, strong communications skills, and knowledge of customer databases
that include gaining insights about business opportunities.
6. Sales manager
Primary duties: Sales managers are responsible for securing and keeping contracts across a
geographic region and they may travel to conduct visits, develop relationships with customers,
bid on projects, and host visits and tours. They work with clients to create, plan, and prepare
estimates and pricing proposals for presentations as part of selling products and services. Sales
managers often have three or more years of experience with sales in a specific industry sector,
have excellent written and verbal communications skills, and may hold a postsecondary
credential in marketing, sales, or business.

8. Sales coordinator
Primary duties: A sales coordinator provides administrative support for a sales department by
answering customer phone calls and e-mails, and responding on behalf of sales representatives
and managers. Coordinators may also follow up with customers on sales visits, assist with
reports and projects, maintain departmental schedules, help plan and execute weekly sales
meetings, and provide reception coverage. Most coordinators hold a postsecondary diploma,
two to three years of experience in an administrative support role, and are proficient with
mainstream office software and applications.
9. Sales engineer
Primary duties: An advertising sales representative generates sales leads by working with both
media agencies and directly with clients. They set up and lead client meetings, create and give
sales presentations, negotiate agency and client contracts, and provide weekly activity reports.
Advertising sales representatives often have two to five years of sales experience in media or
telemarketing sales, excel at building relationships, have strong customer service skills, and
excellent presentation skills.
