School Based Press Conference Guidelines

GUIDELINES
a. Each strand shall have a maximum of three (3) participants for English and Filipino per Individual
Contest and one (1) entry for English and Filipino per Group Contest.
b. The top three (3) winners will be recognized for Individual Contests and top one (1) will be
recognized for the Group contests.
c. The following awards will also be recognized for Group contests:
• Best Anchor
• Best News Presenter
• Best in Technical Application
• Best in Infomercial
• Best Script
d. Participants can only participate in one contest. There shall be a registration of participants
before the contests.
Individual Contests
2. Sports Writing
The participants will watch an actual game which will provide the necessary information to write a
sports article.
5. Photojournalism
a. The participants shall use any Digital Camera (point and shoot only).
b. The participants are given one hour to take pictures of the given theme. The theme will be
announced on the day of the contest.
c. The participants may take unlimited shots but will only submit five photos with captions.
d. Caption sheets will be provided for the participants.
e. The participants will submit their entry after the allotted time.
Photojournalism Rubrics
Technical Quality 40%
Exposure value and quality of image
Presents images with acceptable sharpness
Communicative Quality 40%
Shows clear and specific idea(s) or angle connected to the theme or topic
Uses creative photography techniques to highlight the visual story
News Caption 10%
Wrote a two-sentence news caption (following the 5Ws and 1H
questions)
Ethics 10%
Observes ethical and professional standards for journalism (fairness and
accuracy)
Respectful of subject's right to privacy (e.g., nudity, no permission to be
the subject)
Follows strict standards of no manipulation and alteration of reality

6. Editorial Cartooning
a. Participants will be given 1.5 hours to draw a cartoon on the given topic.
b. Each contestant must only use pencil no. 2 and oslo papers.
7. Mobile Journalism
a. Participants shall create news coverage with the use of their mobile phone.
b. News topic will be given on the day of the contest.
c. The news coverage shall not exceed two minutes.
d. Participants may use any video editing application on their phone.
Group Contests
Script Writing
a. Each team must consist of seven (7) members and must be composed of the following:
• Anchors (not more than two)
• Field Reporters
• Scriptwriters
• Technical person
b. Each team may use at least three laptops. Laptops should include the sound effects files only.
c. The participants will be given 1.5 hours to prepare a 5-minute radio broadcast which includes an
infomercial and four news articles. The infomercial should not exceed one minute. In addition,
fact sheets and other data will be provided for three news articles.
d. Another 30 minutes will be provided to print the script. Each team must print three copies of
their script for the judges. They may also print extra copies for their own use.
Broadcasting
a. Only the participants, judges, and contest personnel will be allowed in the broadcast area.
b. Each team will be given eight minutes: two minutes for preparation, five minutes for the
actual broadcast, and one minute for exit.
c. Deductions will be applied in case of overtime/undertime.

2. Collaborative Publishing
a. Each team must consist of seven members and must be composed of the following:
• Writers
• Editorial Cartoonist
• Layout Artist
• Photojournalist
b. Each team must have three laptops, cameras, A4 size bond paper, and an inkjet printer.
c. A press conference will be held for the news, features, and editorial articles. The
sportswriter shall attend and cover a sports event. The photojournalist will take pictures of
the press conference.
d. The participants will be given four (4) hours to write, layout, and edit their newspaper.
e. Each team is required to save their work in PDF and print it on an A4 size bond paper in full
color.
a. Each team must consist of seven members and must be composed of the following:
• Anchors (not more than two)
• Reporters (not more than three)
• Floor director
• Video graphics editor
• Production Assistant / Video researchers
• Camera man
*Members may assume two roles as long as it would not be conflicting with the outcome of the
broadcast.
Scriptwriting
a. Each team shall have the following components for the script:
• Cover page: This shall contain the team’s name (mock TV network name)
• News articles: The articles will be provided. Each script shall have accompanying video
and audio and shall not exceed 45 seconds on read during the broadcast. Fact sheets
will be given for the news articles.
• Infomercial: Every team is required to have an infomercial about a topic to be provided
during the contest. The infomercial shall not exceed 30 seconds.
• Field Report: Each broadcast shall contain a live field report.
• Headlines: This will contain a summary of the news articles.
• OBB/CBB: Opening Billboard and Closing Billboard will contain the group’s assumed TV
network name. The script for the OBB /CBB should be included in the main script which
will be submitted to the judges.
b. Each team shall print three copies of the script for the judges.
TV Broadcast
a. Each team shall submit the mp4 file of their broadcast on April 27, 2023, at 5 pm.
b. The broadcast shall only last for six minutes. In case of overtime, deductions shall be made.

4. Online Publishing
a. Each team must consist of seven members and must be composed of the following:
• Writers
• Editorial Cartoonist

b. Each team must have three laptops and cameras.
c. A press conference will be held for the news, features, and editorial articles. The sportswriter
shall attend and cover a sports event. The photojournalist will take pictures of the press
conference.
d. Each team shall create a webpage using Adobe Express.
e. The participants will be given four hours for data gathering, writing, layouting, and editing of the
articles.
f. Each team must submit their URL to the examiner.
