FLOOD

Flooding becomes one of the 'scourges' when the rainy season arrives because
residential areas become inundated and result in various losses. Starting from physical losses
in buildings damaged by submerged, economically because economic activity is paralyzed
and has to make repairs, to the emergence of various diseases due to floods.
Heavy rains have hit Pekanbaru City since the last few months. As a result, a number
of areas in pekanbaru city were flooded. The Panam area, which is a densely populated
residential area, is the most frequently hit by floods. Almost every heavy rain, both housing
and highways in Panam, are always flooded. Poor water drainage and the accumulation of
garbage in the ditches of residents' housing may be one of the causes of flooding.
The heavy rain that occurred for almost a whole day, made the water of the ditch
around the housing estate overflow inundating the road. As the flood rose, water began to
flow into residents' housing, washing away everything it passed through such as trash cans,
sandals, wooden wood and small pots filled with plants. Not only that, small animals such as
frogs, cockroaches, centipedes, leeches, and tree snakes came out of their nests, and the
danger was again, these animals entered the residents' homes.
The impact of the flood was quite severe, making residents forced to evacuate to a
safe place. Some residents began to evacuate to aid posts in higher locations, some were still
holding on to keep things at home. In addition, a number of residents have fled to mosques,
and some have made makeshift tents. Water levels ranging from ankle level to adult knees
can cut off access to residents' housing.
Therefore, it is important for all of us to maintain environmental cleanliness, good
water drainage, so that one day in the event of heavy rainfall, our environment can be saved
from flooding.
