The graph presents the proportion of home technology approach among UK’s residents over the period of

time ranging from 1996 to 2003.


Overall, all the figures featured in the graph demonstrate an upward trend. CD player is presented as the
most common technological device while the Internet reaches the lowest percentage at the end of the
research period.
In 1996 and 1997, CD player’s growth, starting from the number of 60% in popularity went up stably over
the course of 7 years and reached its peak at about 82% in 2002 and 2003. In the same period of time, home
computer shared the same tendency with CD player, though its figure rose from about 28% to nearly 58%.
Different from the two abovementioned figures, mobile phone’s percentage of popularity in UK witnessed a
fluctuation. Specifically, stemmed from nearly 19% in the year of 1996 and 1997, smartphones rose
gradually to about 27% in 1998 and 1999. Within a year from 1999 to 2000, the figures rose remarkably to
42% and continually rose until it peaked at about 58%. On the other hand, Internet was only available after
1998 but figured a sharp rise from only 10% to 36% and 45% in the year of 2000-2001 and 2002-2003
respectively.
