Brain Structure
1) Brain -it is a wrinkled, pinkish-gray, three-
pound organ that is the control center of our
body.
2) Parts of the Brain
a. Major Parts
1. Cerebrum -It consists the cerebral
hemispheres.
2. Cerebellum -it controls voluntary movement.
3. Brain Stem -It connects the spinal cord and
the brain and controls functions that keep people
alive.
b. Exterior
1. Frontal Lobes -it determines personality and
emotions.
2. Temporal Lobes -it has the hearing and word
recognition abilities.
3. Parietal Lobe -it helps people to understand
what they see and feel.
4. Occipital Lobe -the vision functions (the
visual processing).
5. Motor Cortex -it controls our body
movement/the learning of motor skills.
6. Somatosensory Cortex -It processes the
signals of touch.
c. Interior Parts
1. Lymbic System -it allows the interplay of
emotion and reason and it has four parts.
a) Thalamus-cognitive activities
b) Hypothalamus-maintaining the normal state
of the body.
c) Hippocampus-long-term storage regions. d)
Amygdala- it encodes the emotion. II. Brain
Lateralization
Laterality- the function of two cerebral
hemispheres.
Corpus Callosum- the bridge between the two
hemispheres and the unification of each
informations.
Hemispheres- this is where most of the actions
of the brain take place, there are 2 hemisphere.
1) Left Cerebral Hemispheres -it is in charge of
the right side of the body. Left brain-dominant
people respond in logical ways, and are guided
by sequence or order.
3) Right Cerebral Hemispheres -it is in charge
of the left side of the body. Right brain-
dominant people follow their emotions and
intuitions.
II. Mind Mapping Technique -Presented by
Tony Buzan. It is a graphical technique that
mirrors the way the brain works.
