Chapter 1
SCU22/221 Two-Wire Coin Special Services Single
Channel Unit (RDT)
Description
The SCU22/221 provide one special service channel of two-wire coin service at
the Remote Digital Terminal (RDT). The channel units are identical except
the SCU221 does not provide signal-freezing capability, and the intended
applications of the SCU221 are for switches not presently compatible with
signal freezing such as the Siemens Stromberg-Carlson DCO® and EWSD®
systems and the Ericsson AXE®-10 system. This document refers to the
individual cards as the SCU22 and the SCU221..
The SCU22/221 current sources ±48 VDC on either Tip or Ring leads and ±130
VDC on the Tip lead of the channel unit for Coin Return or Collect
applications. The SCU22/221 provides 2 dB of insertion loss in both the
transmit and receive directions and an input impedance of 900 ¾ in series
with 2.16 µF. The SCU22/221 sources 21mA of loop current and 41mA of coin
control current to the maximum Carrier Serving Area (CSA) loop. This
channel unit is compatible with both 1C/2C-type and 1D/2D-type coin
telephone sets. Fig. 1.2 is a block diagram of the SCU22/221.

Installation
6. Enter channel number or Pair Gain (PG) address of channel slot assigned by
system administrator and press <ENTER>. The system displays:
UNEQUIPPED Channel
NOT PROVISIONED
ALERT! When removing a channel unit, be sure that it does not touch
components on an adjacent unit. Contact with other components could
disable the entire system.
11. Inspect contacts on new channel unit. Contacts are located on connector and
back edge of card. Contacts should be clean, straight, and free from damage.
12. Place latch on SCU22/221 circuit card in open position and insert channel unit
into slot. While holding faceplate, position card onto guides and slide card into
slot until firmly seated.
13. Position latch on SCU22/221 circuit card in closed position. Verify that card
is firmly in place before closing latch.
14. Enter channel number or PG address of channel slot assigned by system ad-
ministrator and press <ENTER>. The system displays:
EQUIPPED Channel
to verify that the SCU22/221 slot is now equipped. If the equipped status
is not confirmed, determine and correct problem and return to Step 1.
15. Update office records. SCU22/221 installation procedure complete.
Audible/Visual Indicator
If the SCU22/221 is installed in a channel slot manually provisioned for a
different type of channel unit, an indicator will sound and a CU LED will light
on the Alarm Unit in the RDT Fuse and Alarm Panel. This indicates that a
or
F1 = IPG943,1123 F2 = PG453,432
F1 = ==Idle== F2 = PG453,402
If the message states that the cross connect is provisioned, the system
displays:
Go to Step 10.
If message states the cross connect is not provisioned, the top message
line displays settings as entered. The second line displays existing
settings. Continue with Step 9.
9. Enter Y or N to indicate whether to override existing settings and press <EN-
TER>.
N retains existing addresses, shown on the second line.
Y overrides existing settings and inserts new settings entered, displayed
on the first line.
After either Y or N is selected, the system displays:
13. Enter channel shelf number and press <ENTER>. System processes informa-
tion and requests output format:

(D)isplay, (P)rint, or (B)oth = __
Turn Up
Turn up is performed after installation and consists of channel unit diagnostic
procedures performed through the SS. This turn up procedure verifies channel
function without the need for standard ring, dial, and talk procedures. These
channel unit diagnostics can be performed on a number of channel units in
less time than traditional turn up procedures, however, standard turnup
procedures may be used.
Turn-Up Diagnostics
After completion of the Turn-Up test, the SS displays the channel unit
diagnostics menu.
8. Press 6 - Retrieve Diagnostics Information and press <EN-
TER>. Then press 4 - Retrieve Turn-Up Diagnostic Totals
for a Specific COT or RDT. The SS displays:
Turn-Up Diagnostic Totals for a Specific COT or RDT
10. Press D and <ENTER> to display, P and <ENTER> to print, or B and <EN-
TER> to both print and display. The turn-up diagnostics totals report is printed
and/or displayed. This report lists the total number of channels testable, total
number of channels attempted, total number of channels passed, and total
number of channels failed. The test is complete.
Provisioning
There are no provisionable parameters for the SCU22/221.
Testing
General
The SCU22/221 plug-in module provides faceplate-mounted jacks for access to
the channel circuit. All channel units of the system are compatible with the
integrated Metallic Test Access Unit (MTAU) and provide the interface as
required for the remote test units. The system provides channel testing using
internal channel unit diagnostics inherent to the system.
Local Tests
Local testing from the channel unit may be accomplished using the
faceplate-mounted jacks and indicator.
• Busy Indicator: The busy indicator lights when the channel is in use.
• Tip and Ring Test Jacks: The test jacks are used to monitor the tip and
ring leads of the channel unit.
Diagnostic Tests
The system can perform diagnostic tests on channel units to verify
performance. The tests can be performed on a demand basis only by the SS.
• Off-hook test.
• Ringing test.
• 1,000 Hz insertion loss test.
• Two-wire 1Khz hybrid balance test.
The results of routine tests are recorded and maintained in the SS for later
analysis. Diagnostic reports are maintained in the SS for display and printing
until new diagnostic reports are generated.
