Abstract
Covid-19 has led to an unprecedented global pandemic
affecting persons of all ages. The severe respiratory disease
can occur in adults, particularly the elderly and those with
underlying health conditions. Most people are being infected
from other people. It probably spreads the same way as colds
and flu – through droplets which are created when we talk,
cough and sneeze. Some people have been infected following
contact with an infected person with minimal or no
symptoms. COVID-19 has affected different countries
differently based on the context, ecological conditions and
even settlement patterns. So the only way to control and
defeat pandemic was social distancing , and this objective
can only be achieved by practising social distancing by
imposing lockdown. This has severally affected society as
every sector has been disorganised .The effectiveness of
control measures of different countries across globe also
played important role in containing virus.

Introduction
Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses l are known to
cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe
diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS)
and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). 2019-novel
coronavirus (COVID-19) was identified in Wuhan, China. This
is a new coronavirus that has not been previously identified
in humans. It started from a local seafood market, known sell
too live and freshly slaughtered hunted animals such as Bat,
Snake and Pangolins.
Impact of Covid-19 in Indian Society

The virus may vanish (hopefully) sooner or later, but the

impact of the distrust that has been created shall loom large
over social relationships. Let me elaborate this suspicion
developing in the society with some live examples:
 You knock on the door of your neighbour’s house just to
have an informal ‘on the street’ chit-chat, but you don’t
understand why somebody from inside says that ‘He is
sleeping’, clearly to obviate ‘personal touch’ with an
outsider!

 You are going to buy some necessities from the market

and the boy in the shop blatantly advises you to keep
distance and in the process treats you as if you are the
carrier of the virus! It appears that buying is a one-sided
transaction which is the need of the buyer only!
 You handover your Cash or else plastic card to make
payment of your purchases and the shopkeeper asks for
PIN of your debit card! He states that the swipe machine
cannot be handed over to you, as the key-board may be
infected Or as he asks you to make UPI payments only.

This is how Covid-19 has affected Indian Society in day to day

life but this has more drastic effect over various sectors of
Indian society by making it disorganised :
Education sector : COVID-19 has actually hampered
educational activities as :

 Examinations at different levels are postponed and

cancelled
 Admission process got delayed

 Not all teachers/students were ready for this sudden

transition from face to face learning to online learning
as everyone was not having access to Digital World.

Employment sector – Unemployment rate is increased due

to pandemic as :
 Most of workers were daily wage workers who were
employed on daily basis and due this pandemic they lost
their jobs .
 Even after the Unlock -1 phase in India Company or
business organisation were asked to work with 25% of
employees.
 Estimation of job loss showed that 80 per cent jobs
were affected in urban economy, most of which were
self-employed, 54 per cent jobs were affected in rural
economy, most of which were casual employment.

Hotels and restaurants – Demand has declined substantially

with owners struggling to recover the fixed costs. Pre-
lockdown, hotel occupancy rates of 70 percent declined to 20
percent with restaurants losing 30 to 35 percent of their
business.
Travel and Tourism – Coronavirus as completely halt on
travel and tourism. The tourism industry has been massively
affected by the spread of virus ,as many countries have
introduced travel restrictions in an attempt to contain.

Comparative Study

The Comparison below is done between the countries :

 USA

 Brazil

 India

This are the top three countries all over the world mostly
affected by COVID-19.
First Case Reported in Respective Countries
USA – On 20 January first known case of COVID-19 was
confirmed in Washington in a man who had returned from
WUHAN on 15 January.
Brazil – On 25th February first case of COVID-19 was
confirmed in a 61 year old man returning from Lombardy ,
Italy .
India – On 30 January first case of COVID-19 was confirmed
in the state of Kerala in a medical student of Wuhan ,China.

Total Recovered - In terms of recoveries, the US fares the

worst among the three countries with only 39.2% (30,63,412)
of its five million cases recovered. Brazil and India with 67.8%
and 68.1% of cases having recovered, have done much
better.
Total Cases – According to Worldometer , which compiles the
Covid-19 data from around the globe , only Brazil and US are
ahead of India in Coronavirus Infections.
Total Death - Death is one category where , India has
performed significantly better than other two countries with
only 54,438 death case where other two countries have cross
the mark of 1 Lakh .

Economic Impact of COVID-19

While there is no way to tell exactly what the economic
damage from the global COVID-19 novel coronavirus
pandemic will be, there is widespread agreement among
economists that it will have severe negative impacts on the
global economy. In a scenario that results in a global
pandemic, it is predicted that the Gross Domestic Product
(GDP) of USA will decline by 2.4% Brazil by 3% and India by
4.5%.

Conclusion
The world is still examining possibilities of elimination of the
COVID-19 virus and there are many of them. One of the
important country-specific action is discovering a vaccine
against the virus. The coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic is the
defining global health crisis of our time and the greatest
challenge we have faced since World War Two. Since its
emergence in Asia late last year .There is no doubt that the
pandemic has already led to devastating social, economic and
political effects that will leave deep and longstanding scar.
