EarthScience 2ndquarter PETA-1
EarthScience 2ndquarter PETA-1
S.Y. 2023-2024
PERFORMANCE STANDARD: The learners are able to describe that exposure of rocks to Earth’s processes has
led to the occurrence of different geologic events through an audio-visual presentation.
TRANSFER GOAL: The students should be able to independently use their learning to create an information
drive focusing on the different processes that had occurred in the rock layers to explain the connection of past
geologic events to the present time and be able to use this to predict what could happen in the future.
ESSENTIAL UNDERSTANDING: The students should be able to understand that exposure of rocks to Earth’s
processes has led to the occurrence of different geologic events.
ENGAGING SCENARIO:
The Geology Division of the National Museum of the Philippines will hold its annual Travelling Exhibition
Project in the province of Pampanga. Part of the exhibit includes the geological history of landmarks and historic
locations in the province. As part of the project, the Division is opening a portion of this exhibit to show geologic
research work from students in the province.
As an earth science student, you are given the opportunity to show an audio-visual presentation of the history
behind the geologic features of any location within Pampanga. The presentation should include the following:
General Information and Description - A description of the place/city/locality of your choice and the
geologic feature/s that you want to focus on.
Geologic Events - The geologic events (arranged chronologically) that took place in the area
(place/city/locality of your choice) which caused the formation of this/these geologic feature/s.
Future Event - A research-based prediction of what would happen to the same location based on the
different geologic events that had happened from the past.
References – a detailed list of references where you got all your information.
Note: Please be mindful of copyright laws to avoid plagiarism.
Here are a number of steps that you can take to avoid plagiarism: (from
https://www.carthrottle.com/post/alm44xp/)
1. Don’t copy and paste articles from other websites on the Internet. This is a severe form of plagiarism.
2. If you want to use images from other articles/sources on the Internet, make sure you give credit to the
original owner (unless the image is copyright-free). You can attribute the image source by listing the name
of the publisher or the URL that the picture came from (e.g. Source: www.carthrottle.com)
3. It’s always a good idea to include links to the websites you used to get your information from!
4. If you decide to take a quote from someone else, make sure you give them credit! (e.g. According to Kyle
Ashdown, “Mia has much less body rust than Phil.”)
Guidelines:
This task would require you to create an audio-visual presentation about how a geologic event has caused a
particular geologic feature that could be found at a specific location in Pampanga that you have chosen. Below are
the guidelines for this activity:
On Location:
- The location should be within Pampanga only.
- No two groups should have the same geologic feature or location
On Submission
- Submissions would be done in three phases:
o Phase 1 (PC 1) – Gathering of Info. All needed information would be collected during this phase.
Information includes the details of the Geographic Feature, the geologic event that caused it, and the
effect of the geologic feature if it would happen again. This output would be submitted through the
MS TEAMS post dedicated for this activity. The file should be in PDF to avoid rearrangement of
content. List of at least five (5) references and a list of member’s tasks should be included in the
submitted file. Be guided by the following questions in searching for the content for Phase 1:
What geologic feature/s does/do our chosen location have?
Is this caused by a geologic event?
If YES, what are the details of the event?
If NO, what other features does the location have?
What is the general effect of the geologic event whenever it happens? (not location specific)
Would this be the same effect if the geologic event happens again?
o Phase 2 (PC 2) – Script and Video outline. At this phase, the script or outline of what would be shown
on the video should be submitted. The script includes what content would be presented per scene and
how they would be organized. This could also be a general outline of the sequence of scenes that
would be used in the video. This includes a list of members who are assigned to each scene. The
general genre of the video should also be presented on the output. The output for this phase would be
submitted through the designated post in canvas.
o Phase 3 (PC 3) – Video Creation and Editing. This is the last phase of the Performance Task. In this
phase, you are to enact all the plans that you have submitted and create an audio-visual presentation
that meets all the criteria discussed above.
- Submissions should be done until October 23-26, 2023, 5pm. If the file is uploaded after the given due date
and time, the maximum score would only be within the “Developing” margin.
On Groupings:
- The class would be divided into groups of 5 or 6 students.
- Each member should have a designated task for each Phase of the Performance Task which would be shown
on each output.
- A leader would be set for each group. The leadership position should also be considered in the tasking since
it bears additional work for the assigned person. This position, however, does not excuse the student from
being on the video.
- No voluntary separation from the group would be allowed.
- Group transfer is also not allowed.
- Non-participation on the First and Second Phase, even after three warnings, would mean removal from the
group. The removed member would be asked to do the performance task individually.
- Non-participation on the Third phase, even after two warnings would result into an automatic score of zero
for peer score of the member that is not participating and a 50% deduction of the member’s group score.
Important Reminders:
1. The scoring of your performance task will be on an 80-20 distribution. The 80% will come from the group
score and the 20% will come from the peer evaluation score.
Example:
Group PETA score = 16
Peer evaluation score =4
Student’s total performance task = 20
score
2. Each member of the group is expected to submit (on or before the set deadline) an individual peer
evaluation rating. Failure to submit will automatically mean a deduction of 2 points from the student’s
group raw score and a grade of zero (0) in the peer evaluation.
Example:
Group PETA score = 16 (minus 2 points from
non-submission of
individual peer evaluation)
= 14
Peer evaluation score =0
Student’s total performance task = 14
score
