India has achieved the first two goals as of 2018, but with only twelve years left to achieve the rest. India
needs to gear up regarding the same.
The best performing state is Tamil Nadu with a score of 84 and the Union Territory in concerned
category is Chandigarh scoring 96.
As for the worst performing state, It is Meghalaya with a score of 11. While Delhi is the worst
performing UT, it’s still above many states with a score of 51.
The probable reasons for Tamil Nadu’s success maybe that it possesses the largest single solar power
plant in all of the world, commissioned by Adani Powers. It’s also one of the very few places in India
which utilize their tidal energy generation capacity.
Progress by far:-
➢ 43.8% households in India use clean cooking fuels
➢ 95% households have access to electricity
➢ Renewable sources constitute 17.51% of the total installed generating capacity of electricity in
India
Some initiatives of GoI:-
• National Solar mission
• Green energy corridor
• Off-grid and Decentralized Solar PV Applications Programme
• National Biogas and Manure Management Programme
