The Gini coefficient is a measure of inequality, with a value of 0 indicating perfect equality and a

value of 1 indicating perfect inequality. The Gini coefficient for Canada in 2019 was 0.301,
meaning that there was moderate inequality in Canada. The top 20% of earners earned 4.9 times
more than the bottom 20% of earners, and 12% of Canadians were living in relative income
poverty.
