Lesson plan in Science VII

CONTENT STANDARD:
Demonstrate understand of how the major organs of the human body work together to form
organ systems
PERFORMANCE STANDARD:
Make a chart showing healthful habits that promote proper functioning of the Musculo-
skeletal, integumentary, digestive, circulatory, excretory, respiratory, and nervous system.
LEARNING COMPETENCY:
Explain how the organs of each organ system work together; SGLT-II-b-1
I. LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
a. Identify what is respiration
b. Explain the process of respiration
c. Perform different tasks showing the importance of Respiratory system in our
lives; and
d. Show cooperation in group activity
II. SUBJECT MATTER:
Topic: Human Respiratory System (The process of Respiration )
Materials: Balloon, Drinking Straw, Plastic bottle, Masking tape, Scissor,

III. PROCEDURE

Teacher’s activity Learner’s activity

A. Preliminary activities
1. Prayer
a. “Before we start, let us pray first” (One student will lead the prayer)
2. Greetings
“Good morning class” “Good morning ma’am”
3. Checking of attendance
“Is there anyone absent today? “None”
4. Energizer
“Before we start let us sing first” “ Oh its science time after all
Oh its science time after all
Oh its science time after all
Oh its science time after all

5. Classroom agreements
B. Developing activities
A. Elicit
Recall the main parts and functions of
Respiratory system
“nasal cavity, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi,
bronchioles, and lungs”

B. Engage
( breathing exercise)
1. Ask them to pinch their nose and close
their mouth and then hold your breath for
ten seconds and after that ask them what
they feel.
2. Ask them to stand up and jump for 10
times and after that ask them what they
feel
3. Ask them to put their left hand on their
chest and the right hand on their stomach
and ask them to breath in and then ask
them what they feel
4. Ask them again to put their left hand on
their chest and their right hand on their
stomach and ask them to breath out and
then ask them what they feel
C. Explore
Group activity
( construct a lung bottle model)

Materials

Balloons
Drinking straw
Masking tape
Scissor
Plastic bottle

Procedure
1. Cut the neck off of two of the balloons
2. Cut one straw in a half. Then attach one
balloon to each straw half. Use the masking
tape to seal it
3. Stick the two drinking straws through the hole
in the bottle cap and tightly screw the lid back
onto the bottle and lightly tape around the
hole so there isn’t excess air
4. Tie the knot in one end of the balloon cut off
the fat end
5. Stretch the balloon around the bottom of the
plastic bottle
6. Pull and push the bottom balloon

Question:
 How did you find the activity?
 What did you observe? “ easy”
“ The balloon inside expand when we pull
 Why do you think the balloon expands? the bottom balloon”
“because they were filled with air as we
 Where did the air enters? pull the bottom balloon”
“in the straw on the top of the balloon”
 How about when you push the bottom balloon?
 Why do you think the balloons shrink or contracts? “the balloon inside shrink”
“as we push it, the bottom balloon is
 What do you think is that? forcing the air outside the balloons”
“lungs”

( present a Riddle)
What is something that we do all day, every day, even
when we are sleeping, and we don’t have to think about it,
to do it, in fact we are doing it right now?
What is the answer?
“Breath!”
D. Explain
Discussion
Respiration- is the act of inhaling and exhaling air in order
to exchange oxygen for carbon dioxide

 How do we breath?
 What do you call when we breath in? “we breath in and we breath out”
“Inhale”
Inhalation-is the act of breathing in

 What do we inhale?
 What do you call the air that we breath? “Air”
 What do we call when we breath out? “oxygen”
“exhale”
Exhalation -is the process of breathing out

 What do we exhale?
“carbon dioxide”
Process of respiration
(explain using the lung bottle model)

INHALE EXHALE
The diaphragm The diaphragm
contracts and expands and
pulls downward moves upward
and the lungs and the lungs
expand shrink or contracts.

Path of airway during respiration

(video presentation)

 Why do we need to breath?

 How important respiratory system in our lives? “to survive”

“it is very important because of the this

system we can breath and be able to
E. Elaboration survive”
Group activity (group them into 3)
Perform different task such as Role play, make a
jingle and make a simple advertisement or
commercial that shows the importance of
Respiratory system in our lives.

 Giving instructions
 Present and explain the rubrics
