Detailed Lesson Plan about The Respiratory System for Grade 9

Name: Danielle Auralet J. Cabaylo

Time: 10:30 A.M -12:00 A.M

I. Objectives
At the end of the discussion, the students should be able to:
 Cognitive: Explain how Respiratory System works
 Psychomotor: Create their own model of lungs and present it to the
class
 Affective: Share their insights on why it is important to take good
care of the lungs.

II. Subject Matter

 Topic: “The Respiratory System”
 References
Science 9 Learner’s Module, pp 29-31.

 Materials

 PPT Presentation
 Visual Aids
 Gadgets (Laptop, Presenter)
 Picture of the Respiratory System
 Crossword puzzle activity sheets
III. Procedure Teacher/Student Activity
a. Preliminary Activities  Prayer
 Greetings
 Checking of attendance
 Classroom rules
1. Listen and follow directions
2. Treat each other with respect at all times
3. Let's make this discussion interactive and fun

 The teacher will recap the lesson by asking

student/s about the previous topic discussed.

 Review of previous lesson

“Why is our immune system important?”

“What are the different parts of the immune

system?”

“What are the three types of the immune system?”

b. Motivation  The teacher will conduct a pre-activity and will

allow the students to work in groups.

“To introduce us to our new topic, let’s have first

our pre-activity and I want everyone to work as a
team. You will be given 2 minutes for this activity”

 The activity sheets will be distributed to every

group.

 After 5 minutes, their papers will be collected and

the puzzle answers will be shown on the screen.

Activity 1:
“FILL ME UP, BUTTERCUP: CROSSWORD PUZZLE”
 After the activity, the teacher will then flash the
objectives on the screen and the students will read
them in unison.

c. Presentation of the new Question that encompasses the objectives:

topic Think about breathing. Why do you think we
breathe?

Respiratory System:
The respiratory system involves in the intake and
exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide between the
organism and environment.

The different parts of respiratory system are:

Nose/Mouth - The organ through which the air enters and

is filtered.

Larynx- also called the voice box; helps with breathing,

sound production, and protects the trachea.

Trachea (Windpipe)- connects the pharynx (located

behind your mouth) and larynx to the lungs.
Bronchi- also called bronchial tubes; two branching tubes
that connect the trachea to the lungs

Bronchioles- very small branches of the bronchi.

Alveoli- groups of thousands of tiny air sacs at the end of

the bronchioles.

d. Discussion (Drills and  What gas is inhaled?
Activity)  What gas is exhaled?
 Where does gas exchange happen?
 Who can explain the process of the human
respiratory system?
e. Developing Mastery  The teacher will then give the instructions about
(Activity) the next activity wherein they will be making their
own models of the respiratory system.
 Before distributing the materials, the teacher will
present the rubrics first.
ACTIVITY 2: GAWIN MO LUNG!

Output Rubric

Presentation Rubric:

 After 5 minutes, the teacher will let the students

present their outputs in front of the whole class.
 The teacher will then announce their garnered
scores.
f. Application  To further show the students the greater
importance of the respiratory system, the teacher
will present a documentary video to the class
entitled “The Man in the Iron Lung.”

 The teacher will then ask the following questions to

the students to hear their ideas in connection to the
video.

“What do you think will happen if we will not take

care of our respiratory system?”

“Why do you think is it important for human beings

to take good care of their lungs?”

“What should we avoid to maintain our respiratory

system healthy?”
g. Generalization (Review)  The teachers will ask the students to review the
topic discussed.

“What is respiratory system?”

“What is the vital role of this organ system?”
IV. Assessment  To ensure that the learning took place, the teacher
will conduct a 5-point quiz.

Multiple Choice: Read the questions carefully.

Choose the letter of the best answer.

the exchange of gases inside our body?

5. What do you call the tube-made of cartilage rings?

a. trachea b. bronchi

 The teacher will let the students exchange papers

with their seatmates to check their answers.

V. Assignment The teacher will give the students an assignment by

researching five (5) causes of different respiratory
diseases and its treatments.

reasons?
2. How can these diseases be treated?
