Geometry Unit 2
Basic Geo Concepts and Connections

Warm Up
Take out your laptop and go to the first site linked in the announcement on
Brightspace. If you don’t have a laptop look on with your neighbor who does.

Write four true statements and one false statement about the image using the
terms point, line, collinear, noncollinear, and plane.

Go to the second link on Brightspace

What do you notice?

What do you wonder?

Let’s talk about how to name all of the things, use all the tools, and change the
view.

Answer the questions under Interpreting Drawings

Work together with the laptop at your table.

Take turns manipulating the image

Make sure you are using the Naming Conventions

This is a blank canvas!

Add and create in order to answer the questions under Formative Assessment.

Share your final canvas by either emailing me the link

(abigail.gruver@sccpss.com) or putting it as a comment on our Brightspace page.
Include the names of anyone at your table who helped with the canvas.

TOD
Give me some feedback about your first couple weeks of class? What would you
change? How could I help you learn more?

Warm Up
Solve these equations:

1) 2x+4=28

2) 32 +3x = 5x -2

3) x+43 = 39

4
8/29/2023

Let’s talk about it

Which of the angles below look like they are the same?

You think they’re the same? Let’s prove it

● Trace a pair of parallel lines on your
tracing paper
○ Use some lined paper or trace the sides of a
ruler or a book to make sure they are parallel
● Draw a straight line that intersects both
parallel lines
○ Make sure it’s a straight line by using a ruler
or your lined paper again. Maybe put a
number at each angle to keep track of them.
● Cut between your parallel lines
○ You know, with scissors.
● Overlap the intersections to prove they
are the same

Warm Up with some Parallel Lines Practice

8
8/29/2023

We’re going to practice

● Do your best
● Ask for help
● Be nice about it

TOD
Describe the line. Be Specific.

9
8/29/2023

Spot the Difference

What is different about these lines?

Name as many differences as you can see.

We are going to start looking more at the coordinate plane

● If this makes you uncomfortable
○ Look over the examples
○ Come to tutorial (TODAY and Every Wednesday!)
● Having the coordinates for things gives us information like ….

● What do you know about the sides of a rectangle?

Warm-up
What do you remember about Slope and Distance from yesterday? (Weren’t
here? What do you already know?)

Take out your notes from yesterday.

Now Let’s do Some Practice

Yep. Practice is useful.

Let’s Play a Game

● You are going to respond with either True or False by either standing by the
door wall (TRUE) or the table wall (FALSE) then we’ll talk about it.

Evaluate the following statement as true or false

A square is always a kite.

Evaluate the following statement as true or false

A kite can never be a

rhombus.

TOD
Draw a quadrilateral that doesn’t fit any of the categories we talked about.

Warm Up
How could I use the
distance formula and what
I know about slope to
prove that this is a
rectangle?

Also, get logged in to

Desmos.
Also, you will need a
calculator today.

21

Warm Up
In PENCIL see if you can fill in the grid on the Properties of Quadrilaterals
worksheet. Check each box that applies to that quadrilateral.
