MINIATURE'S DEN PATREON GUIDES:

ABBADON THE
DESPOILER
Bones and Silver NMM
PAINTS USED
IN THIS GUIDE
AK: Mud Brown
Aerocolor Ink: Brazil Brown, Pthalo Green
PART 1

The bones were basecoated with a dark mixture of Black + a tiny bit of AK Mud Brown and an even tinier
bit of white. (60-30-10).

I then added a touch of white to the mix to create my first highlight and painted it on the skulls pretty
much everywhere, except the recesses and the bottom. This highlight was painted with "dirty"
brushstrokes, meaning little dots, lines and any form of brushstroke that wouldn't give me a defined
area of light but rather a textured one.
PART 2

With more white added to the mix, I continued the texturing work focusing the light towards the top of
the skulls and the edges.
PART 3

I then used two inks. Areocolor Brazil Brown and Phtalo Green, to filter over the skulls.
I didn't filter the inks separately but rather wetblended them. I placed the brown over the areas of light,
while the green went in the areas of shadow, wet on wet, as to let the two colors blend organically on
the model.

Let me insist on the fact that inks have to be thinned down when used with a brush.
PART 4

The silver NMM was basecoated with a dark grey (black+white) and then added a touch of white to
highlight it, placing the color everywhere except the very bottom of details.
PART 5

With more white in the mix, I started interpreting the volumes a bit more in depth, for example by placing
a light on the claws on the left facing part of the "pyramid" they are, keeping the right side slightly
darker to show the viewer the light source direction (above, from the left). I also edge highlighted.
PART 6

With pure white I painted some little dots of light where the edge highlights met the volume highlights,
to suggest a strong glint of light. I then glazed a super thin Phtalo Green ink on the bottom of the silver,
to tint them ever so slightly and making them feel more interesting.
