FINAL GIRL

HANS THE BUTCHER

PAINTING GUIDE BY SORASTRO
Hello! In this guide I’ll be painting Hans The Butcher from Final Girl!

I began by priming the miniature in black followed with some almost-zenithal

highlights applied from above at a slight angle to create a more interesting and
dynamic pattern of values. (I used Vallejo’s Cold Grey followed with the Sca-
I’m now thinning down some Green
lecolor Artist White Ink for this.)
Grey on the palette:
My plan is to stick to using thin layers of colour to allow these values to show
through:
I’m using this to paint the pig mask, You can see that this is thin enough to allow much of the underlying value to
as well as the shirt, trousers, and the show through. (It’s better to be too thin for this kind of work than too thick, as we
boots: can always add additional layers if necessary):

For the boots I’m using the paint a little

less thinned to acheive a darker, more
solid finish:

Next I’m creating a cool skin tone us-

ing Pink Flesh mixed with a little of the
Green Grey:
I’m now using this to colour the arms
and neck area:

Next I’m painting the apron using Here, again, I really want that nice gra-
thinned Burnt Sienna Umber: dient of values to show:

I’m now adding some Green Gray to the

Burnt Sienna Umber, and using this to
paint the handle of the hammer, as well
as the hair showing at the back of the
head:
I’ve also decided to add a second layer
of the Burnt Sienna Umber to the strap Next I’m applying some Dark Earth basing paste to the ground:
of the apron:

I’m now dotting in the eyes using pure And I’m brushing some Fluorescent
white (keeping the paint quite dense): Magenta over the top:

Here I’m just further darkening the in- And I’m adding some Vanilla White to
sides of the ears with some additional the Green Grey, which I’m then using to
Green Grey: add a few highlights to the mask:
I’m mainly hitting the edges of the ears, tip of the snout, and the ridge just above I’m also adding some shiny highlights
each eye: to the boots:

Next I’m adding a few highlights to the

And here I’m adding some highlights to
skin by adding some Golden Flesh and
the head of the hammer:
Vanilla White to the base tone:

I’m being mindful of the direction of the

light as I do this:
I also added a few highlights to the

back of the left leg using the same
handle of the hammer to provide some highlights to the weapon:
highlight tones I used for the mask:

I’m now adding some black lining to

edges of the apron, and where the shirt
meets the skin:

I’m also using Vanilla White to light-

And I’m using this to add blood spatter mainly to the apron, but elsewhere too...

I’m then painting over this with Green

I’m now providing a light dry brush to Gray for Hans’ shadow, wet blended
the base with Vanilla White: into Burnt Sienna Umber for the rest of
the base:
I also decided to glue down some resin Grass Tufts (by Epic Basing) and little
pieces of sand or rock:

After brushing on a black primer, I then

used some dark-ish greens to paint the
grass:

I’m then protecting the figure with some
