Furlong School Software Seminar Report

Furlong's School software an integrated program that includes online interaction

between students, teachers, admin and parents.
Attended by: Ms.Angy Mohamed, Ms.Dania Hamza, Ms.Lamia Mounier

The Software includes:

1. A report system: It contains various types of reports that suit various systems of
school.
2. HR system for the whole staff

3. Admission and marketing system.

4. An online calendar for school events.

5. It has its timetable system, and substitution system.

6. For Teachers: It allows them to add assignments online, and it has a grade book
system.

7. For Admins: It allows them to follow up the teachers' and the students' academic
progress and attendance through its analytical system.

8. For Students: It allows them to submit their assignments online, communicate

with their teacher, as well to make self-assessment for themselves and track their
own progress.

9. For Parents: It provides online tracking for student's academic and behavior
progress. It also allows parents to set appointments, as well notify parents with
events like parent's meeting, annual shows.. etc .
Pros:
1. It is an integrated program that contains all the items that we need.
2. It will facilitate the communication problems that we suffer.
3. They are more flexible that other companies in modifying layouts or anything we
will need.

Cons:
1. It mainly depends on the internet connections and these problems are totally out of
our hands.
2. We will need either to buy a server (a real server) or rent a host outside the school,
which Ms. Nadia refused before for security reasons.
3. Its interface is a little bit complicated.
4. It needs a technology oriented staff, and our staff will not easily be introduced to
such technologies.
5. They offered to fully train only from 3 to 5 staff members and then they will carry
out the responsibility of training other staff members in school and this will take a
long time as I mentioned before due to its complicated interface and the staff's
problems with the technologies.
6. Their support will be through phone calls or e-mails only along the year.
7. It is a British and IB system, not American although they can modify it to suit the
American system.
8. I sent them to send the proposal to be discussed, but heard from others during the
seminar that it will cost 28 British pounds per students in addition to the cost of the
program itself, training, annual renting, maintenance, the host and any modification
which is dynamic in our school.
