PREREQUISITE: NIL

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This is the first course in Mechanics, which covers the general principles of statics and the equilibrium of
bodies under the action of forces. In chapter 2, the properties of forces, moments, couples and resultants
are developed. In both, chapters 2 and 3, analysis of two and three-dimensional problems have been
treated. Chapter 4 deals with the application of equilibrium principles to simple trusses and to frames and
machines. Chapter 5 deals with distributed forces and areas under the curve. Chapter 6 is concerned with
friction and its selected applications.
