Learning Task 3: “Emergency! Emergency! What will I
…………………………………………………………………do?”
Direction: In this activity, you are going to pick a situation, and do the necessary and
appropriate action in case the problems arise in doing snorkeling.
1. Water has unique features that make it a perfect environment for activities and
good exercise. These characteristics include buoyancy, hydrostatic pressure, and
enhanced cooling. Buoyancy is the upward force of the water on an item; this is
why boats and people float on the water. On the one hand, hydrostatic pressure is
the pressure exerted by water when it is in harmony with gravity. The body is
subjected to hydrostatic pressure from all sides, which, together with buoyancy,
contributes to maintaining upright equilibrium in the water. Furthermore, water
has cooling qualities, transferring heat away from the body much faster than air at
the same temperature.
2. I have learned that snorkeling is swimming with a snorkel and mask to see what's
beneath the water. Snorkeling allows you to explore the underwater attraction
without resurfacing regularly to gasp for air with less effort.
3. I also discovered that the snorkel, goggles, and fins are the necessary snorkeling
equipment. The floating vest and rash guard are other vital pieces of equipment;
however, they are optional for some.
