Your turn…
Identifying your own environmental aspects and impacts:

Brainstorm your activities

What environmental aspects are associated with these?
What are the environmental impacts of this?
Identify the significance of each impact:
• Intensity
• Likelihood
SIGNIFICANCE RATING
Severity is related to the level of the
exposition of the environment to the
impact, including air, water, soil, natural
resources, flora, fauna, humans

Frequency describes how often some

impacts could occur in the environment of
an organization.

Volume describes the quantity of aspect

Frequency (F) – rating of the environmental aspect based
on the frequency of occurrence

Severity of Impact (S) = environmental impact’s rating is
basedon the effect of a particular aspect to the environment.
Effect to the environment shall be categorized as pollution,
depletion of natural resources and beneficial to environment

Characteristics Risk Factor

Pollutant is gas
5
Pollutant is liquid release to water
3
Pollutant is liquid release to land, hazardous
solid release to land 2

Pollutant is a solid waste

1
Beneficial to environment
0
Volume / quantity – rating is based on the volume or
quantity of a particular aspect. For gas, irregardless of
volume the risk rating is maximum

Volume/Weight Risk Factor

Large quantities involved resulting in significant
loss/depletion of a natural resources. ( Above 50 5
liters for liquid & above 100kgs for solid per month. )

Medium quantities involved and where the

quantities and materials nature involved does not 3
continue a significant loss/depletion of a natural
resource. ( For liquid, 31-50 liters & 51-100 kgs for
solid per month )
Low quantities involve and the materials is not
considered to be of a sensitive nature in respect 1
to the depletion of the natural resources. ( Below
30 liters for liquid & below 50kgs for solid per month
)
Total Risk = [ Frequency ( F ) x
Severity ( S )
x Volume ( V ) ]
