I: Introduction

Science month is celebrated every September

pursuant to the Presidential Proclamation no 28. It is a
month-long celebration wherein science enthusiasts are
enjoined to observe. This year’s theme is "Agham at
Teknolohiya: Sandigan ng Kalusugan, Kabuhayan,
Kaayusan, at Kinabukasan. Science Month celebration
seeks to demonstrate to the pupils and teachers the
importance and relevance of science to the future
development of our society and economy. It seeks to offer
great range of events and activities that will motivate
people to engage with science at home, in the classroom
and at work. Science can help to answer the what, the why
and the how, while also revealing new questions. It is a
problem-solver, helping to crack everyday challenges.
Science Month is an opportunity to investigate what is
possible. II.

II: Goals and Objectives

1. Manifest awareness on the importance of celebrating

“Science Month”.
2. Provide opportunities for the learners and teachers
engage into productive, meaningful and effective activities
that promote awareness, interest and involvement of
everyone in science and technology.
3. Harness the knowledge, skills and values of science
leaders, teachers, coordinators and science enthusiasts to
cope with and apply the developments and advancements
in science.
4. Show cooperation, sportsmanship and camaraderie on
pupils in every contest they participate in
5. Appreciate learners’ outputs/performances that show
significant impact in everyday lives.
III. Accomplishment

Month of September is Science Month Celebration,

thus, various activities were accomplished at Bagong
Nayon I Elementary School in three consecutive days. On
the first day, we held Slogan Making Contest from Grades
three to six pupils, as well as the Poster Making Contest.
Selected pupils participated actively in the said
competitions. Different exhibits from recycled materials
were also displayed by different grade levels. It aims to
awaken the mind of people, young and old to help
conserve our mother nature.

On the second day, we conducted Mind Mapping,

Quiz Bee and Essay writing contest wherein pupils
manifested their knowledge about Science and
Technology. Before the celebration of the Science month
ended, we also conducted “Search for Mr. and Ms. Science
2023” opened to all interested pupils from Kinder to Grade
6 level. Contestants were given a chance to showcased
their talents and wits on the said pageant.

After the pageant, an awarding ceremony was

conducted for the participants and winners of our search.
Together with their supportive parents, they proudly
cheered around the vicinity of our school. Those different
activities conducted during the celebration fully developed
the pupils’ holistic growth and awakens their awareness
about the importance of Science and Technology in our
daily lives.

IV. Challenge and Solution

In conducting our Science Program for this month’s

Science month celebration, challenges are inevitable. As a
teacher, we should be flexible and be prepared for some
possible solutions for our program to succeed. First
challenge that we have encountered is the lack of time for
planning. Most of our fellow teachers do not have time to
attend our personal meetings. To make the planning
possible, meetings were announced to be online.

Next challenge is the lack of funding. We have come

up to the idea that we should collect some plastic bottles
that can be sold and can generate money for the budget of
the program. Indeed, it was a good start but facing reality,
it will not be enough so we decided to buy tumblers as our
second plan. These tumblers are being sold voluntarily by
different grade levels. The income for these tumblers
helped us to earn more for the budget of the program.

We also have encountered problems for the venue of

the contests. Most of the contest will be held initially at
the amphitheater but it is under renovation so we end up
at the solution of assigning the pupils to their respective
buildings for the contests.

These challenges are one of the adequate problems

we just faced in conducting the program. A solution exists
for every challenges. A good teacher must have the
courage to overcome all of these bravely knowing that
there is always a way for the program to be successful.

V. Future Plans and Goals

Learning does not only happen inside the classrooms

but it comes from experience and gaining knowledge in
our everyday lives. It is limitless.

We should imply to the pupils that Science month is

not just a “celebration” but it is about showcasing the
talents and skills of every student in terms of innovation
and discovery. This also enables them to enjoy science
concepts and to engage them on scientific issues.
We can learn in different ways and science has a
critical role in gaining additional experience and
knowledge. Science is everywhere. It contributes in
providing medicine, identifying diseases, providing our
basic needs-such as water, food and energy, innovating
technology and making life more fun. Science had a
significant part in enhancing the living of humankind. Even
though there are a lot of changes in the modality of
learning of students, our mission will still remain- to
provide every student an equal opportunity to learn and
no one will be left behind.
