NARRATIVE REPORT ON “KATUTUBONG SAYAW” CONTEST, BUWAN NG WIKANG

PAMBANSA 2019

SEPTEMBER 19, 2019

To accomplish the celebration of the BUWAN NG WIKA with the theme of “Wikang
Katutubo: Tungo sa Bansang Filipino”, a culmination activity was held at the Arellano
University, Juan Sumulong Main Campus Gymnasium last September 19, 2019.
The program was divided into three (3) parts. First was the Sabayang Pagbigkas
competed by the grade 11 students then Katutubong Sayaw for grade 12 students followed by the
awarding ceremony as part of the program.
In this year’s culminating activity, Katutubong Sayaw gave the highlight of the program
because it is a brand new competition for all of the students. In the said activity, the students
displayed their exceptional skills and talents in dancing as they show off their creative moves
inspired by a variety of dances that represents our own unique style of dancing.
The said competition serves as the essence of the program to inculcate to the Filipino
people a sense of national uniqueness when it comes to our own way of dancing and our role in
making a nation that respects the beliefs and cultural differences of each other.
The contest began as soon as the Sabayang Pagbigkas was done at the Arellano
University Gymnasium. Five sections from 12th grade Senior High School students were
selected and had given the chance to participate in the finals. Grade 12 ABM - 8, ABM - 1,
STEM - 1, ABM 10 and ABM – 9 were the following sections who made it to the finals.
Such competition was held at the midday hours of the day. It started at 11 in the morning
and ended at 12 in the afternoon. The scheduled event held during the Katutubong Sayaw contest
was well planned in the lead of Mr. Homer De Guzman Maduro, [School Filipino Team Leader]
together with the teachers of the Filipino Department that delivered the best possible way for the
students to perform the contest well.
The contest started and was concluded peacefully. At the end of the contest, it was the
ABM – 8 from the 12th grade who brought home the bacon, not just winning the crown for the
contest but as well as winning the heart of the judges and audiences. Overall, the Katutubong
Sayaw of the Buwan ng Wika was a successful event for everyone. The students' level of
competency partakes and has been reflected in the said theme.
