I. COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Entrepreneurship is designed for Grades 11 and 12 Senior High School based on the Department of
Education Curriculum. This book can also be used by tertiary schools offering a degree or course in
Entrepreneurship. It introduces understanding and developing the core competencies required of an
entrepreneur. It also seeks to uncover the innate Entrepreneurial abilities of the learners and hone their skills and
good judgment in finding opportunities amidst crises and turn them into profitable entrepreneurial ventures.
The learners must be able to understand how the enterprise will make money (business model) by
estimating the needed investment, forecasting revenues, expenses, and profits, and determining the appropriate
financing package. This means that the learners must understand how to prepare the enterprise’s five year
projected financial statements as basis for inviting potential investors and financiers later on to participate ( for
growth and expansion)
Specifically, at the end of the course, the students are expected to:
1. Introduce students to the concept of planning and gain a basic understanding of its purposes and processes.
2. Build the student’s capacity to convert a selected business opportunity into an actual business by following
prescribed process in opportunity seizing.
3. Introduce students to market research and gain a good understanding of its purpose and value in doing a good
business plan.
4. Enable students to extract meaningful insights from market research findings that would help in defining,
targeting, and capturing a customer base.
5. Understand the seven Ps of marketing.
6. Gain insights on how different enterprise market their products and why they market them differently.
7. Impress upon the students that there are rigorous management and technical processes required to come up with
successful new products.
8. Raise the student’s understanding and appreciation of the human resources functions and its many dimensions.
9. Instill the value of learning before doing, which essentially entails looking forward and making good educated
assumptions about the future.
10. Enable students to fully appreciate what it takes to come up with new products to sell to the market place.
11. To make students understand and appreciate the different Organizational, Legal, and Financial Requirements
for setting up an enterprise.
12. Broaden and deepen student’s appreciation of the crucial role of finance in making critical business decisions.
13. Develop the student’s ability to discover business opportunities through several opportunity-seeking methods.
14. Develop the student’s skills in planning as applied to a particular business endeavour.
15. Develop student’s skills in basic market research.
16. Develop the student’s skills in crafting market plans.
17. Develop the skills of students in actually conceptualizing, developing, and launching new products.
18. Demonstrate how financial forecast can be used to evaluate business investment decisions.
19. Develop student’s skills in using the tools and techniques for investment analysis and budgeting.
