(F) Matching a number to fingers
When the first five or six children are dressed, sit them in a circle.
Include other children in the circle as they finish getting ready.
Together sing A ship came from China (Appendix 1). At the end
of the third line, say a 1-digit number and hold up the matching
number of fingers, for example It brought me a six. During the
last line, children in the circle show the matching number of
fingers and shake them in time to the music. Repeat, this time
asking the child on your left to sing a number and show the
matching number of fingers. Continue, each time letting the
next child in the circle sing a number before the rest of the group
show the matching number of fingers.

Adaptations
Can also be used for:
• saying the name of a shape – children all draw this in the air at
like this, like this (F)
