Directions: King Louis XIV of France was one of a series of European monarchs who increased the

power of their central governments. He became known as the “Sun King” and his reign lasted for 72
years, longer than any other European monarch.

Directions: Peter the Great was the Czar (Tsar) or ruler of Russia. He belonged to the Romanov family,
which would be the last family dynasty to rule Russia (1613-1917). He is most well-known for the many
changes he brought to modernize Russia.

Russia permanently. She becomes known as an Enlightened Despot. Catherine helped bring Russia into
the Modern Age, but she was not a woman to be messed with.
