CREATION OF CANCUN
In 1967, a group of investors and
visionaries had created a tourist
development facing the Caribbean Sea in
the north of the state of Quintana Roo.
1967

START OF CONSTRUCTION

1970 The pioneer builders began worked on

April 20, 1970 to turn Cancún into a
tourist destination.

FIRST INVESTOR

1972
In 1972 the first stone of the Bojórquez
hotel had been laid.Bojórquez was a
perfume merchant who started with a 24-
room beachfront hotel.

CANCUN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

1973
In 1973, the Cancun international airport
was inaugurated, with a landing strip on
what is now Kabah Avenue and a control
tower made of sticks and palm trees.

PUBLIC BEACH

1974
Chac Mool Beach is inaugurated; It was
given that name due to a pre-Hispanic
sculpture of this character located in the
place

MUNICIPALITY OF BENITO JUAREZ

1975 The municipal palaces of Benito Juarez

opens.It was the first work action of the
first municipal president

FIRST CINEMA

In 1975, the "Variedades Maya" cinema

had opened its doors, popularly known as

FIRE STATION

1976 The Heroic Fire Department of Cancun

was created on April 15, 1976 and its
headquarters building was built between
1975 and 1976.

An important part of Cancún's history

In the Cancun region, Gilberto produced
waves 7 meters high, washing away 60%

most intense tropical cyclones.
