1801 First practical steam driven vessel named Charlotte Dundas

1858 The first cruise. Customers paid to join thde Ceylonm a P&O vessel.
1884
The Peninsula Steam Navigation Company (P&O Cuise) became the first dedicated leisure cruiseline .
Titanic vessel was introduced by White Stra Cruiseline, Titanic sank on April 12, 1912 after coliding

1912 Custom built cruises were introducesd by Cunnard with the vessels Laconia and Franconia.
1922 Laconia sailed on a world cruise. Passengers were divided in three class accommodatuins

1934 The luxury Liner RMS was launched. It had 1,174 officers and crew and 2000 passengers

1939 WW II was declared. Cruise ships such as Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth were converted as troop
carriers.
1958 Downfall of cruise companies and passenger ships were sold with the emergence of Boing 707
commercial flights.
1966 Cruise industry recovered, mainly centered in UK
1970's New cruise companies were established. Companies worked with airlines to develop combined
products - fly and cruise. TV series Love boat was aired in 1977 which starred Pacific Princess Cruise
ship.
1984 Carnival Cruises first TV commercial
1986 Windstar, a vesel with computrerized sails, was introduced.
1990 Mergers and acquisitions of cruiselines
2000 Segmentation and lifestyle cruising
2003 Cunards's Queen Mary 2 was launched. Carnival Corporation became the largest cruise operator
when they merged with P&O Princess Cruises.
2006 Norweigian cruise line (NCL) introduced and launched the 1st free stryle concept of cruising
2009 Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas became the world largest cruise ship at that time
2010 Royal Caribbean's Allure of the Seas became the worls largest cruise ship at that time
2011 Carnival Corporation announced its 100th ship - Carnival magic
2016 Royal Caribbean's Harmony of the Seas became the world largest cruise ship at that time
2017 Princess Cruises and NCL devoted their vessels to Chinese markets in Manila. Philippines became the
homeport of star cruises' Superstar Virgo
2018 Royal Carribean International ship, Symphony of the seas first sailed the hish seas on April. She is
thje largest ship todate with 2,759 statereoom and 6,680 passengers and 2,200 crew
