In the silence of the lambs, the costume of the man suggests that he could be the ‘villain’ as everything in his life is carefully thought about, perhaps making him overly clean and a perfectionist. This behaviour is typically abnormal, as it could tell us that he often thinks ahead of his actions to clean up after himself. This could also suggest that everything in his life is being taken care of for him, meaning that he doesn’t have control over this life. This could display to the audience that he also doesn’t have control of his actions, telling us that he could have done something bad.

The costumes of the characters give away their personalities, for example, the boy’s patterned t-shirt being tucked into his trousers and his glasses typically create a ‘nerdy’ look. The toy and behaviour mannerisms from the boy also tell us that he has a geeky personality and perhaps doesn’t care what other people think of him. The main boy in the scene is wearing brighter colours, making him stand out from all the others – especially the other boy next to him that is wearing a plain white t-shirt. This could also display that he is perhaps unaware of the views from others and has a different personality to the other children surrounding him.
