Subject: Urgent Request to Address Student Grievances at the National Institute of

Technology, Silchar.

I am writing to you today with a deep sense of sorrow to express my concern and sadness regarding
a recent and tragic incident. It has come to my attention that a third-year Electrical Engineering student
from NIT Silchar has taken his own life. The loss of a young and promising life is a matter of profound
sorrow, and it highlights the urgent need for action.
I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Koj Buker, the departed soul. His
untimely demise is not just a personal tragedy but also a stark reminder of the emotional challenges faced
by students in our country's top educational institutions. Our thoughts and sympathies go out to everyone
affected by this heartrending event.
In the wake of this tragedy, the student community of NIT Silchar has launched a protest, which
has entered its 4th day, to voice their concerns against academic inflexibility and lack of transparency
related to academic matters.
I respectfully request your office to initiate a thorough and impartial investigation into the
circumstances surrounding Koj Buker's unfortunate passing. It is crucial to identify any grievances and
concerns raised by students at NIT Silchar and to address them comprehensively.
Furthermore, you will agree that it is essential to prioritise mental health support' and awareness
within our educational institutions. Many students are grappling with emotional stress, academic pressure,
and other challenges, and they need access to effective counselling and mental health resources . By
strengthening these services, I am sure that we can create an environment where students feel safe,
heard, and supported.
I hope that the relevant authorities, educational institutions, and mental health professionals will
implement measures that will prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.
The memory of Koj will catalyse positive change in our educational system and by taking prompt
and meaningful action, we will ensure that no student in our country feels so overwhelmed by their
circumstances that they see no way out.
I kindly request your prompt attention to this matter and your commitment to addressing the
grievances of students within our premier colleges. I am confident that your leadership will make a
significant difference in creating a safer and more supportive environment for our youth.
