Main activity: Introduce and give a brief explanation about the author ‘Christina Rosetti’. For two weeks, they will be learning her poems.
Explain to children that today’s lesson is about ‘Rhymes’. Define and give examples of what is rhyme (see PPT)

Ask children to look for any rhyming pattern they notice in the poem. Ask children to write the rhyming words they notice on their white boards.
Draw their attention to the way in which the final word in all the verses rhymes except the last.
Ask children to suggest why the word ‘orange’ appears at the end of two lines in a row instead of being pairedd with another rhyming word. Can children suggest why
the last verse is different?
Because it ‘stops’ the rhythm; it shows it’s the end of
the poem.
Plenary – Think of other words that rhyme with the names of the colours (pink, red, blue, white, yellow, green).
