Among the 10 principles of smart growth, I think it would be taking advantage of compact building

design. It is crucial because urban sprawl's cause have serious negative effects on the environment, the
economy, and society. It causes a reduction in open space and environmental amenities as well as
higher road transportation emissions. Since appropriately sized compact development accommodates
more uses on less land, it would result to well-designed, natural areas are preserved and less
expenditures are necessary to develop and preserve infrastructures. It enables communities to be set in
a manner that safeguards more open space and uses land and resources more effectively. Communities
can lessen the environmental impacts of new infrastructure and maintain more green space by, for
example, encouraging buildings to expand vertically rather than horizontally and using structured
instead of surface parking.
