Rules
As a general rule, we add "ed" to regular verbs in English to make them past
tense. However, if the verb ends in "e", we are only going to add a "d". For
example, "Visited" "Worked"
If the verb ends in a consonant plus "y", we are going to change that "y" to an
"i" and we are going to add "ed". For example: “I studied” “I tried”
If the verb ends in a vowel plus “y”, we are only going to add “ed” to the verb.
For example, "I played" "I stayed" "I enjoyed"
If the verb only has one syllable and the last three letters of the verb follow the
pattern “consonant + vowel + consonant”, we are going to double the last
consonant and add “ed”. For example, "Stopped" "Bigger"
