WIKI
Is a web application that allows collaborative editing of its content and structure by its users.Wiki is different from a blog since wiki
allows users to add, edit or delete content that is posted on the website while blog does not allow others to modify the original material posted.
The important part of wikis—what makes them different from any other type of website—is collaborative editing by the users. Think about that
for a moment: the ability for the users of a wiki to collaboratively edit it. If you can read it, you can edit it. It seems simple at first,
yet profoundly powerful in practice—and it's what both Wikipedia and WikiLeaks have in
common.
What are its uses?
Wikis can be used to organize all your stuff. You can use wiki to:
 promote collaboration among individuals
 use as online presentation tool
 post announcements, meepPtings, agenda or discussion
 create a to-do-list
 organize projects, from planning to implementation
 plan an event
 enhance teaching and learning
 share materials like documents, and other media
BLOG
A blog (shortening of “weblog”) is an online journal or informational website displaying in the reverse chronological order, with latest posts
appearing first. It is a platform where a writer or even a group of writers share their views on an individual subject.
What is the purpose of a blog?
There are many reasons for starting a personal blog and only a handful of strong ones for business blogging. Blogging for business, projects, or
anything else that might bring you money has a very straightforward purpose – to rank your website higher in Google SERPs, a.k.a. increase your
visibility.

8 Top Tips for Using Wiki in the Classroom

1. Set Clear Expectations
Before setting wiki, guidelines and sharing them with your students, consult your school’s policies on social media.
Provide students with written guidelines that must be adhered to. Let students know that if they publish inappropriate content,
there will be consequences. Asking students to sign a contract is also an option.
2. Start Small
Take baby steps. Everyone will benefit from gradually increasing wiki use in the classroom. By starting small, teachers
can stay on top of monitoring classroom wiki, thus remaining in control.
3. Ask for Help
Although wiki is easy to use, there are times when you will run into stumbling blocks.Ask for help when you do not
understand something. You would be surprised at how much your learners and colleagues might know about wiki.
4. Read other Wikis
As a class and individually, explore other classroom wikis. This will give you ideas and inspirations for your own wiki
pages.
5. Let Wiki Work for You
Wiki is more than just a learning tool for students; it is a communication tool for teachers. Use wiki to keep parents
informed and post assignments and other class related content. Your wiki page is easily edited and updated so there’s no more
need for a last-minute trip to the copy machine.
6. School-wide Wikis
Use wikis to showcase field trips, class events and school-wide events, such as the prom or last week’s football game.
7. Pinterest
This site has a wealth of information on wiki for the classroom. Simply type in asearch term such as "wiki tips for the
classroom". If you don’t already have a Pinterest account, learn more about it through The Teacher’s Guide to Pinterest.
8. Collaborate
Do lots and lots of group work. Create assignments that require students to work together, continuously communicating
as part of team as they would in the real world. For example, a media class can work in teams to create an advertisement for a
product of their choice that involves print and/or video. For a science class, have
students work together as a research team investigating the sudden drop in the local dog population.
Guidelines for safe and responsible blogging:
First the Do’s:
 Conduct yourself in a manner reflective of a representative of this school.
 Treat your blog as a classroom space. It is not a place for personal and private issues that are not related to school
topics.
 Strive to write respectfully and do not be rude. Blogs are about ideas but agree or disagree with the idea, not the
person.
 Make specific suggestions and back up your opinions with facts.
 If you should come across anything online that makes you feel uncomfortable or afraid, minimize your screen
immediately and report to your teacher.
 Do ask for permission to use any files that were created and owned by others, including photos, audio and video clips,
etc.
And then the Do Not’s:
 Do not post or give out your family name, password, home address, phone number or any personal information that
would give information that would help someone directly locate or contact you in person. The same guideline when referring to
class members.
 Do not post anything that you would not want your family, your teachers, your friends to read. Use correct English
and be aware that everything you post reflects you. You are an ambassador for elementary blogging.
 Do not always believe everything you read online. You need to make a judgment about whether it can be trusted.
Create your own Wiki.
Managing Your Space:
To manage the "behind the scenes" aspects of your wiki, click on the "manage space" link (next to a picture of a wheel) on the
left of your wiki. This takes you to a page with links that enable you to do several different things, the key ones described here:
Make changes to who can edit your wiki:
When you wiki is created, it defaults to the protected setting that allows only people who have a Wikispace account to edit your
page. When anyone who is not a member tried to edit your page, they will be notified that you first have to approve them as a
member. This way, any time anyone edits your wiki, you will know who they are (or at least their wiki identity). In order to
have your wiki be editable only by a select (private) group, as well as to have your
page be advertising free, you need to upgrade from a free account. For most users this isn't necessary, but you may want to
consider this if you want to use your wiki for business that you do not want the public to see (e.g. K-12 teachers may want to
use this option, and pay $5 a month).
If you want to change the default settings to allow anyone to edit your wiki:
1. Click on the "members and permissions" link.
2. Under the column "Public" click on the green "select" button.
3. If later you wish to change your page back to the protected setting, then you can switch back by again checking this
green button.
4. Click on the "manage space" link to the left of your page to continue managing your
space.
There is no need to change any of the other defaults on your wiki. However, once you become more comfortable with
the basic features, you can return to the "Manage your space" page to change other features. When you are ready to learn more,
go to the Wikispaces Help page.
Uploading a Word document or other type of files to your wiki:
1. Click on "edit this page"
2. Click on the icon on the toolbar to embed widget (it is the one with the picture of the
TV)
 This will open a screen that allows you to choose the category of application
you would like to embed from the list provided. e.g. video, slide show, audio,
calendar, IM, polls.
 Once you select the application, follow the onscreen directions.
3. To add an image, click on the icon on the toolbar to add an image (it is the one with
the picture of the tree)
 This will open an images and files window that invites you to upload a new file. Click on the browse button and
navigate on your computer to where you have the Word file (or any other kind of file -- image, word processed
file, sound, or video).
 Once you have selected the file, click on the upload file button
 Once the file has been uploaded, then in the images and files window, double click on the file icon. This will insert
the name of the file on your wiki nested inside double square brackets.
Click on the wiki "save" button to save your edits. The file that you uploaded should appear
as a link.

Read the following statement carefully. Encircle the letter of the correct
answer.
1. Which item below is a good?

ACTIVITY SHEET IN EPP VI

Buying and Selling Products Based on Needs and Demands

Buying and selling for profit is nothing new. It has been around for thousands of years; the only difference is that the
currency has switched from goats and bread to paper and plastic.
There are two primary reasons why buying and selling has recently exploded from being the closely guarded secret of a
few, to the popular occupation of hundreds of thousands of people worldwide, who are now buying and selling as their sole
source of income. The first reason is the advent, wide acceptance and use of the internet and the second reason is what I refer to
as the new economy.

Buying and Selling Process

Buying Process
In order to effectively promote your product, you should first understand the buying decision process and
later prepare for selling strategies. "A buying process is the series of steps that a consumer will take to
make a purchasing decision." - Shawn Grimsley in Education Portal
Figure 1 illustrates the buying decision steps involved in the process.

Selling Process
For you to make more sales, follow this traditional 7-step Selling Process given in Figure 2.These
steps will help you improve your individual sales aside from the sales you earn in your business
area.

WHAT IS IT……
The Buying Process
 The buying decision process model starts with the recognition of needs and wants. Purchase will
not take place without first knowing what you need and want. A need is an important product that
you must acquire while a want is a product that you desire but is not
important. A need is a necessity while a want is a luxury. For example, you need water to survive
while you may want soft drinks to satisfy your thirst but you don't need it. However, a person's
wants may be another person's needs. For example, a person needs a car
for going to work every day while this may be a want for others.
 Next to recognition of needs and wants is information search. Buyers search for the business
environments to look for the potential product choices. Information may come from print, radio,
television, and online advertising.
Evaluation of choices takes place after having different products/services to choose from. Here,
the best product/service is chosen based upon the needs and wants. The choice is said to be
influenced by one's attitude and of course the available budget.
 Purchase decision step is where the actual purchasing takes place.
However, this may be disrupted either by negative feedback or by unanticipated circumstances. For
example, you want to buy a cellphone in Store A but one of your friends told you that Store A is
selling cellphones that are not of good quality. So, your decision to
buy a cellphone at Store A will be disrupted.
 After purchasing, evaluation is the next step which would determine whether the buyer will
make similar purchases from the same seller in the future on the basis of being either satisfied or
dissatisfied.

Since purchase decision depends highly on the needs and wants of the customers, you should then
match your product/service according to their current and unmet needs and wants. Knowing that
buyers search for information, you need to make your product available and establish your brand or
identity. Give as much information to your product and why this is the best, among others. The
information you give should be true and is really possessed by your product. Your product or service
should satisfy your customer so that they will make similar purchases again with you.

The Selling Process

 Prospecting and Qualifying. Research for your potential buyers aside from the people living
near your business area that might be willing and able to buy your product or service.
Pre-approach. Familiarize the needs and relevant background information of the qualified
prospects.
 Approach. Make a small talk to the qualified prospects and build a business relationship.
 Presentation. Present your product/service focusing on the benefits rather than the features. Keep
the presentation interactive.
 Objection Handling. Treat objections or hesitations as opportunities to respond to customer's
needs and concerns.
 Closing. This is the step where the seller asks if the customer is willing to make a purchase. "If
you do not ask, then you don't get. (Sheldon Snodgrass)
 Following-up. Nurture the business relationship by following up. This ensures additional sales
and customer referrals. You may make a call and say thank you or ask if they received the product in
good condition.
Needs are basic necessities of people such as food, clothing, and shelter. People cannot survive
without them. Nowadays, education and health care are part of the human needs. Garment products
and real estate products are always patronized.
Wants are goods that people desire or wish to have. People can still live even without these products
or services. Electronic products and entertainment industry fall under this category. Abraham
Maslow is a well-known American psychologist. He proposed the different levels of needs and
human beings. The basic needs of man are food, clothing and shelter. He called them basic because
it pertains to survival, biological and physiological needs of people – things needed in order to live.
This level had been very helpful to all people. Once the need of a person is satisfied, he or she
moves to the next level. The knowledge of the needs of people helps entrepreneurs market their
products and services. Products and services are bought because they satisfy the needs and wants of
the customers. A product is something that is manufactured following a process or grown and
nurtured in order to be sold for a profit. A service is a facility supplying a public or market
demand. Some examples are hair salons offering hair care and hairstyling services; bus companies,
offering transport services: and spas and wellness centers offering massages, skin care treatments,
and the like. There are different products and services that are available for each type of customer.

Here is a brief description of Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs.

1. Physiological needs or basic needs are things needed to survive such as food, water, air,
sleep, clothing and shelter.
2. Security needs or safety needs are also important for survival but not as demanding as basic
needs. Examples of these are employment, healthcare, and safe home.
3. Social needs include the need for belonging, love, affection, friendship, attachments and
families.
4. Esteem needs include personal worth, social recognition, and accomplishments.
5. Self-actualization or self-fulfillment needs are personal awareness and have less concern
with the opinions of others.

Selling of Products Based on Needs and Demands in the School

and the Community
 Demands are a step ahead of wants. It is the amount of interest to a given product that consumers
are willing to buy at a given price, at a given period.
Sellers could offer products in the school and the community based on existing needs and demands.
Examples include the following:
1. Bottled water is one of the most in-demand products in school and
community that can provide a solution to the need.
2. Used clothing commonly known as “ukay-ukay” business offers imported products and
sometimes overruns sold at lower price.
3. Street foods such as fish balls, “siomai”, and assorted “kakanin” can be sold the whole day and are
offered at a lower price.
4. Baked products such as pandesal, ensaymada, bread loaf, cakes, and other pastries are equally
saleable.
