1. Traffic is considered to be a major societal problem, whether pre-pandemic or post-pandemic. It

causes tremendous strain in multiple areas of our lives. After watching the CGP Grey Video: Simple
Solution to traffic, what are your thoughts on how traffic is discussed?

The presentation and analysis in the video “Simple Solution to Traffic” has well discussed and simply
explained that the behavior of the drivers is the main cause of the traffic. In reality, it is true that most of
the traffic on the roads is caused by irresponsible drivers and an ineffective traffic system.

2. Do you agree with his analysis of the problem? Why?

Yes. The discussion about fundamental traffic problems tackles the cause and effect of people’s behavior
while driving and of some animals that we cannot control over the situations on the roads. Having the
perfect coordination of the drivers between cars would help us to lessen the traffic. At the same time,
driving cars and working together in a chain would help us improve our traffic system. If the drivers
could coordinate and accelerate driving simultaneously on the roads, we can maintain a good flow of
traffic and avoid congestion.

3. How can we study the problem of traffic using the following discipline?

PSYCHOLOGY

We can consider the conduct of studies on the behavior of drivers on the road, the relationship they
have with their cars, the routes that they often follow, and the interaction between different drivers. In
general, traffic psychology aims to apply theoretical aspects of psychology in order to improve traffic
mobility by helping to develop and apply crash countermeasures, as well as by guiding desired behaviors
through education and the motivation of road users.

ECONOMICS

One of the natural causes of traffic has fallen because of the huge number of vehicle owners. Nowadays,
driving and applying to own a motor vehicle is relatively cheaper than they used to be in real terms.
Also, Public transport is seen by many as an inferior good, which means that as incomes rise, people
switch away from inferior goods. The car dealers with the help of the government may create policies
that would assess rigorously and setting requirements to all the people who wants to own a vehicle.

POLITICAL SCIENCE

Good transport planning and policies to be implement by the government will help us improve our
transportation and would prevent congestions on the roads. Traffic management and enforcement
agencies may retrain a unit that will focus on the traffic systems and policies, and enforcers that will
focus on chokepoints on the roads.
GEOGRAPHY

In general, lack of urban planning is also the reason that causes traffic on the roads. Proper urban
planning is possible only if we have a responsible elected official with a metro-wide view of traffic, flood
control, sanitation, and zoning. Also, Road engineering would also help and lessen the traffic such as
clearing temporary obstacles, repaving, markings, and signage.

DEMOGRAPHY

One of the problems that cause traffic is public transportation such as areas where passengers board
and alight. There are some designated areas and bus stops that did not look with other considerations.
The transport system should also be car-centric and not only mass-oriented.

HISTORY

For the past many years, a lot of studies and proposals have been presented and conducted for the
improvement of transportation. The government, specifically the Traffic management and enforcement
should also look for the proposals and studies that were presented in the past and may improve all the
suggestions that can be effective the traffic system.
