Striking Game - Badminton and FutSul

What is futsal?

Futsal is the FIFA-recognised form of small-sided indoor football (the word is a contraction of the
Spanish 'fútbol sala'). It is played between two teams who each have five players on the pitch at any one
time, with rolling substitutes and a smaller ball than soccer that is harder and less bouncy.

The small amount of space means players must have great technique and skill, and as well as a
professional sport in its own right with national and international championships, it is also considered a
development tool for 11-a-side football.

Futsal positions explained:

 The fluid nature of futsal means outfield players usually cover the whole pitch but will generally have
primary roles.
 Not all formations utilise all of the positions. Some players are known as 'Universal' and can fill any
of the roles.

Goalkeeper: Can handle the ball in the penalty box but more engaged in outfield play than in football, with
the small pitch size making throws important. Often will tape their fingers rather than wear gloves to aid
throwing.

Defender: Usually the last man ahead of the goalkeeper but also important in starting and joining attacks.

Winger: Often the most skillful and creative player, and crucial in both attack and defense.

Pivot: Typically, the most forward player on the pitch. Their job is not just as a goal scorer but as someone
that can hold the ball up with back to goal before releasing team-mates.

Universal: A player able to perform in various outfield roles.

Futsal Skills are the techniques used during a Futsal match. Pass, kick, and head are examples of Futsal
Skills.

1. Ball Control Skill on Futsal - it refers to the act of keeping the ball under control without letting it fall to
the ground. This skill is also popularly known as kick-ups.

2. Ball Reception / Trapping Skill - It is the act of receiving the ball in the Futsal. The trapping can be
performed with any part of the body eligible by the Futsal Rules, such as feet, thigh, chest, head, among
other parts. The main and most indicated technique for receiving/trapping the ball in Futsal is the
“stepping”, which is when the Futsal player dominates the ball by stepping on it with the sole of the foot.

3. Ball Carrying - is the act of carrying the ball on your possession through the pitch. It is possible to carry
the ball in a straight line or changing direction (zigzag). Carrying can be performed by using the front of the
foot, the instep or by stepping on the ball, the so-called “roll”. It is very important that the Carrying is
performed with the ball always very close to the player’s feet.
4. Ball Pass Skill on Futsal - The ball Pass on Futsal is the act of sending the ball to a teammate.

5. Kick or shooting skill on Futsal- The Kick on Futsal is the act of sending the ball towards the goal /
goal of the opposing team with the intention of scoring a goal.
6. Head Skill on Futsal - It is the act of heading the ball. Heading in Futsal can be used defensively, to stop
an opponent’s attack, to pass or in the form of a Kick / Finish, in order to score a goal.

7. Dribble Skill on Futsal - Dribbling on Futsal involves two other skills: Trapping and Carrying. Dribbling is
the act of passing through a defender by trapping and carrying the ball. Dribbling requires change of
direction, creativity, speed and agility, with the intention of deceiving the opponent and passing through it.

BADMINTON - is a racquet sport played using racquets to hit a shuttlecock across a net.
Skills:
1. Grip: Fundamental skills of badminton - The right grip in holding the racket is really important to achieve
control on shots while avoiding the chances of a wrist injury. A proper grip will allow you to play both
backhand and forehand strokes effortlessly.

2. Stance: Badminton Skills - The stance is how you stand while playing badminton, both in between a rally
and before the serve.

3. Footwork: Badminton Skills - Footwork plays a huge role in helping with an effective and organized
movement on the court.

4. Serve: Badminton Skills - Service is among the most basic skill that you need to master in Badminton.
Also, you should ensure to make a legal service otherwise it might lead to penalty points.

5. Smash: Badminton Skills - Smash is the most potent and powerful stroke in badminton which naturally
turns out to be the most familiar term to all. The shot is basically to hit the shuttle powerfully towards the
opponent’s body or downward on the court.

6. Clear or Lob - The lob shot in Badminton can be imagined as a shot with an inverted ‘U’ trajectory. It is
normally played from the forecourt with an aim to lift or ‘lob’ the shuttle over the opponent. The idea is to
land it as near to the baseline as it is, at an angle that is impossible to clear.

Materials and equipment used in playing badminton:

1. Badminton Racquet - Badminton rackets can be made from several types of materials. Depending on the
material selection, this can result in different combinations of racket weight, balance points and string
tensions.
2. Shuttlecock - There are two types of shuttlecocks - plastic and feathered shuttlecocks.
3. . Badminton Shoes
Badminton shoes are designed to give you better traction and grip to stop in time to return a shot. They
should also be lightweight have good cushioning to absorb impact when you jump or land.

4. Badminton Attire
For casual to non-competitive players, a comfortable pair of shorts and cotton or dry-fit t-shirt is sufficient.
Some players may want to equip themselves with hand grips, wrist bands and ankle guards.

5. Court - The courts are intended to provide comfort to players who use the playing surface to trick their
opponents with clever shots and win points. Therefore, keeping the court surface prim and proper is
mandatory. A badminton court is for two types of competition – singles and doubles.
