Improving Interest of Students in Learning Process by Using Online Platforms


and Digital Instructional Materials

I. Introduction

In teaching, students learn best when they have something to see as a reference
and these are called instructional materials.

Instructional materials are printed and non-printed items that are essential and
significant tools needed for teaching and learning of school subjects to promote
teachers’ efficiency and improve students’ performance. It helps the learner to
understand the topic better, provide the core information that students will experience,
learn, and apply during a lesson and can significantly increase learners’ achievement
by supporting learning. Instructional materials can either engage or demotivate
students.

Typically, teachers are used to having instructional materials that are written
in manila papers, cartolinas and other materials that we consider as traditional
instructional materials. Students’ interest are captured by the creativity of the
instructional materials that teachers use. However, over the past years, technology
emerges and learners are exposed to different types of technology resulting their lack
of interest in studying.Students prefer to use their gadgets and exploring the web and
social media platforms than to spend time in studying. Traditional instructional
materials do not catch their attentions anymore as how effective it is before.

This study will show how the use of online platforms and digital instructional
materials can improve the interests of students in learning process. As a teacher in the
21st century, it is necessary for us teachers to innovate our teaching strategies and
techniques and this involves innovating the materials that we use in teaching.

Since students nowadays are more invested with gadgets and the technologies
that are in trend, why not use it to our advantage as a teacher? With the help of the
online platforms that students often use, we can go with the bandwagon and include it
in our activities. We can also use different apps that will engage the interest of our
students.

With these things taken into consideration, we can agree that as a teacher, we
should be innovative with the way we teach and the materials we use in order for our
students to learn best and for us to be effective in teaching.
II. Statement of the Problem

As we see how important instructional materials are to teaching-learning


process. We must now consider how it can be enhanced with the use of technology.
This research will show the significance in using online platforms and digital learning
materials in teaching.

RESEARCH QUESTIONS:
This research will answer the following questions:

 Do instructional materials influence student academic


achievement?
 Can students taught with digital instructional materials achieve
higher score than those taught with traditional instructional
materials?
 Do digital learning instructional materials and online platforms
improve the interest of students to engage in the lesson?

III. Methodology

 Observation of teachers that teach students with traditional instructional


materials.
 Providing digital instructional materials that will be used in teaching
lessons.
 Will provide surveys to know what instructional materials they prefer.
 Giving assessments to see if there will be a difference in the learning
process of the students.

IV. Conclusion
After this study, the results will show that the use of online platforms and
digital instructional materials will improve the interest of students to learn the lessons
being presented to them. This will also help teachers to innovate and improve their
teaching methodology with the use of technology.
