2.0 HILL 7
2.1 Site Observation
The condition of Hill 7 (Figure 1) was assessed on site and through high definition images captured
through drone. It was found that the condition of the rock slope is determined to be highly fractured,
as shown in Figure 2. This condition poses high level hazard risk to the adjacent utility line. Abrupt
detachment of these fractured pieces would damage the utility line, and also creates substantial risk
for road users.
The wire ropes are made of 6x7+WSC high tensile strength steel wires (EN 12385-2 / EN 12385-4),
the steel grade of the wires is 1770 N/mm2 according to EN 12385-4. The nominal diameter of the
ropes is 8 mm (EN 12385-4), and the ropes are ZnAl5 coated Class A according to EN 10264-2.
HEA Panels 300x300 Φ8 can be supplied with an optional perimetral high tensile steel wire rope.
The perimetral wire rope is made of 6x7+WSC high tensile strength (1770 N/mm2) steel wires
according to EN 12385-2 and EN 12385-4. The nominal diameter of the perimetral rope might be 10
or 12 or 14 or 16mm (EN 12385-4); the rope is ZnAl5 coated Class A according to EN 10264-2.
3.0 HILL 12
3.1 Site Observation
An aerial view of Hill 12 is shown in Figure 3. Drone images taken from site shows that large boulders
are found at the topslope of Hill 12. Such condition poise potential risk of rockfall hazards to the
road users. The size of rock boulders is within 2m diameter range.
In Malaysia, we have installed rockfall barriers totalling over 2km in cumulative length. Likewise, for
Asia Pacific Region, the installation spans across ~ 20km long in countries such as Japan, Phillipines,
Australia, New Zealand, and Hong Kong.
