American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists. Founded in 1921 as the American Association of Textile
Chemists and Colorists (AATCC), the Association continues to evolve to meet the needs of those in the ever-
changing textile, apparel, and materials industries. British Standards Institute.

Eample: AATCC and ASTM have produced several joint publications.

ISO

The full form of ISO is International Organization for Standardization. It started its journey in
London, in February 23,1947. It is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland and works in 166
countries. The three official languages of the ISO are English, French, and Russian.

Example: ISO 9000 is a set of international standards, established by the International Organization
for Standardization, as the basis for quality management systems and quality assurance. ISO 9000
standards were developed to help manufacturers effectively document the quality system elements
that need to be implemented to maintain an efficient quality system. They are increasingly being
applied to any organization or industry. ISO 9001 is now being used as a basis for quality
management—in the service sector, education, and government—because it can help organizations
satisfy their customers, meet regulatory requirements, and achieve continual improvement.

BSTI

The Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) was formed in 1975.According to the
decision of the then cabinet on 16 May 1973, the Central Testing Laboratory (CTL) (a government
institution under the Science & Technology Division), and a semi govt institute Bangladesh
Standards Institution (BDSI) were merged into the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institute,
Order issued by the Government of Bangladesh on 25 July 1975. At present BSTI is functioning as
an autonomous body under the Ministry of Industries. the agency was set up at Tejgaon in Dhaka.
An officer equivalent to the rank of Additional Secretary of the Government, serves as the Director
General of BSTI.

The mission of BSTI is to develop domestic and international standards of product and service and to
promote domestic and international standards by ensuring proper weight and measurement of
products and to facilitate domestic and international trade while protecting the interests of consumers
and partners. It became the member of International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in 1974.
Apart from the Head Office in Dhaka, it has 6 (Six) regional offices in the district

towns. Moreover, a testing laboratory and a metrology laboratory numbered by one in Dhaka,
Chittagong and Khulna respectively. There are 6 (six) divisions of BSTI which include: Standard
Division, Physical Division, Chemical Division, Metrology Division, Certification Marks Division
and Administration Division under those there are 17 (Seventeen) departments.

ASTM

ASTM International, formerly known as American Society for Testing and Materials, is an
international standards organization that develops and publishes voluntary consensus technical
standards for a wide range of materials, products, systems, and services. Some 12,575 ASTM
voluntary consensus standards operate globally. The organization's headquarters is in West
Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, about 5 mi (8.0 km) northwest of Philadelphia. A group of scientists
and engineers, led by Charles Dudley, formed ASTM in 1898 to address the frequent rail breaks
affecting the fast-growing railroad industry. The group developed a standard for the steel used to
fabricate rails. Originally called the "American Society for Testing Materials" in 1902, it became the
"American Society for Testing and Materials" in 1961. In 2001, ASTM officially changed its name
to “ASTM International" and added the tagline "Standards Worldwide". In 2014, it changed the
tagline to "Helping our World Work better". Now, ASTM International has offices in Belgium,
Canada, China, Peru, and Washington, D.C.

ASTM International - ASTM D2939-98 is a Standard Test Methods for Emulsified Bitumens Used
as Protective Coatings.

ANSI
American National Standards Institute is a private non-profit organization that oversees the
development of voluntary consensus standards for products, services, processes, systems,
and personnel in the United States.[3] The organization also coordinates U.S. standards with
international standards so that American products can be used worldwide. ANSI was most
likely originally formed in 1918, when five engineering societies and three government
agencies founded the American Engineering Standards Committee (AESC).[5] In 1928, the
AESC became the American Standards Association (ASA). In 1966, the ASA was reorganized
and became United States of America Standards Institute (USASI). The present name was
adopted in 1969. Although ANSI itself does not develop standards, the Institute oversees
the development and use of standards by accrediting the procedures of standards
developing organizations. ANSI accreditation signifies that the procedures used by
standards developing organizations meet the institute's requirements for openness,
balance, consensus, and due process.
