"A true hero."

Firefighter who was hit by a helicopter bucket while fighting forest fires in La Araucanía
died.

On Tuesday afternoon, Nicolás Soto (20), a young volunteer firefighter, who had been
hospitalized since February 3 after a bucket from a helicopter hit his head in the middle of
a forest fire, died in the Intensive Care Unit of the Regional Hospital of Temuco.

The volunteer was brain dead after being hit by an object hanging from a helicopter
operating in the sector of Nueva Imperial, where Soto and other volunteers were fighting
the advance of the flames.

The young man, who belonged to the 3rd. Villarrica Fire Company, remained in a coma for
almost 10 days in the hospital, where family and friends hoped for an improvement in his
condition.

After his death, it was reported that his relatives decided to donate his organs. Reactions
of solidarity even included a tweet from the president of the republic.

President Sebastián Piñera dedicated some heartfelt words on his Twitter to remember the
firefighter.

I deeply regret the death of Firefighter Nicolás Soto, who lost his life fighting forest fires in
La Araucanía. My sincere and heartfelt condolences to family, friends and colleagues of
@BomberosdeChile, who serve our country with commitment and are a source of pride for
Chile.

Interior Minister Andrés Chadwick also joined in the tributes.

"A new martyr of Bomberos de Chile My condolences to the family of firefighter Nicolás
Soto Estroz. A true hero in his voluntary action to serve and give his life to protect us all.
And my deep admiration for Bomberos de Chile. A pride of our homeland",

This is how the family of Bomberos de Chile received the tribute and condolences from
their comrades from all over the country, as an example we mention the one sent by the
first fire company of Talcahuano:

Nicolás Soto Estroz, volunteer firefighter of the Third Villarrica Fire Company, passed
away today. Nicolás was injured in circumstances under investigation while fighting a
forest fire in Araucanía. Our fraternal embrace to his family and comrades.

From the reading, reflect on the ethical values implicit in the volunteer function
of the Chilean Firefighters.
Ethics Training Course for
Work Performance

In your reflection you should consider including:

 Main concepts of the subject

 Relationship with the ethical and moral values implicit in the subject of study.
 Unpaid work of the Chilean Firefighters
 Workday and why they do it
 Reason for the presence of volunteers in this area
 Reaction of regional and national authorities to the fires.
 Above all, the work of the institution's new martyr should be analyzed.

The Firefighters of Chile fulfill a great function for the welfare of citizens, sacrificing
their lives to save others.
They have ethical values such as: Loyalty, honesty, discipline, courage, gratitude,
prudence.
Firefighters should be paid, they do a demanding job, which requires a lot of guts
to carry such a responsibility.
They do it by vocation like any other job. They sacrifice their time with their family
to attend to the occurrences.
The volunteers had to be in that event that affected Araucanía, they had the
responsibility with volunteers to be there.
Nicolás Soto's work was brilliant. He is a true hero, he died defending his nation,
he fought to put an end to the fire, but accidents happen, and unluckily it was his
turn. The work he did is tremendous and incomparable, he deserves all the praise
of any authority, the respect of all the people. The authorities had to act more
responsibly in the event, give more support to the firefighters, and provide them
with the necessary tools for any event.
The Chilean Firefighters perform their work daily throughout the country, and
deserve the respect and gratitude of the community.
